Black wing Posted August 1, 2012 #1 Posted August 1, 2012 i am trying to get a set of non resistor spark plugs, i can get them but without the projected tip. does it make a big difference on our bikes?
jasonm. Posted August 1, 2012 #2 Posted August 1, 2012 (edited) NGK DP8EA-9 is the non-resistor type...notice the "R" is gone. "P" means projested tip. Which should be used. I got them at Advance Auto. They order them. But these spark plugs failed internally within 12 months with me. They "opened up" to infinite resistance. I have had 6+ NGK spark plugs do this in the last 4 years. No more NGK for me. I now use Denso iridium IX24B...yes these are resistor type. .. work great so far. But They are only available on the internet for me Edited August 1, 2012 by jasonm.
Black wing Posted August 1, 2012 Author #3 Posted August 1, 2012 i only plan on having these in for a month at most to get everything tuned so ngk should do
jasonm. Posted August 1, 2012 #4 Posted August 1, 2012 Make sure your resistor caps are good.OEM spec is 10k. Too little resistance can hurt the igniitor. NGK spec. is 5k. Thus with NGK caps must use resistor spark plugs.
Black wing Posted August 1, 2012 Author #5 Posted August 1, 2012 so what do you recommend? what brand is the most reliable?
jasonm. Posted August 1, 2012 #6 Posted August 1, 2012 here is a part# for STANDARD Denso resistor plugs X24EPR-U9. NOT EXPENSIVE. Again, I do not trust NGK. Some use Autolite 4163 available anywhere.. But they have poorly made threads, compared to the Jap plugs...ugh! Get the Denso
Black wing Posted August 1, 2012 Author #7 Posted August 1, 2012 what store sells them? there are no canadian listings i can see are champion plugs worth anything?
jasonm. Posted August 1, 2012 #8 Posted August 1, 2012 what store sells them? are champion plugs worth anything? If not stocked...any shop... The Denso's can be ordered. I have not used champions in 20+years. So I really cannot comment on them
