Hoss Posted August 1, 2012 #1 Posted August 1, 2012 Anyone have experence with putting on a dampner? These shock type dampners look like a deal for speed wobble if they can be put on a Ist gen. I've had bikes over the years with them, but didn't pay attention how they mounted them. They were factory. Hoss brookdale@brookings.net
camos Posted August 1, 2012 #2 Posted August 1, 2012 Instead of putting a damper on it would be better to fix whatever is causing the wobble. A stiffer fork brace will address most of the OEM weakness in the forks. Other than that issue, anything causing a wobble at speed is something that is not working properly.
Guest Swifty Posted August 1, 2012 #3 Posted August 1, 2012 Isn't it generally considered that the 1st gen wobble is a weakness in the waste of the bike? And that a speed wobble that a fork damper would solve is more connected to avoiding a tank slapper? The 1st gen wobble has been addresses by a number of things...solid motor mounts, fork brace, even progressive forks. It took all of that to solve my wobble.
Hoss Posted August 1, 2012 Author #4 Posted August 1, 2012 Has Super Brace and it's tight, but just had Progressive springs put in this winter, was told not to put on AIR with them, kind of wonder about that ?? Was told that rear should be harder ?? Bike only has 10,000 miles on it new rubber 3500 miles ago and at BOOK pressure unless different pressure is recomonded.

Hoss I put in Progressive last spring myself & have been trying to find the perfect setting. With the help of the people he I think I found it. I keep 3 lbs in the front. The rear I put at 62 with the damper on the # 2 setting. No shake shimmy or wobble. Tires I keep a 32 front 40 rear No issues at all

I run 40 front 42 rear.
