I don't post much but I have to share this. I went to my 4th PGR mission today at DFW National and while waiting for the briefing a medium sized HD (maybe a Dyna, I think bigger than a Sportster, not really sure, I was looking at the guy in amazement) came tooling by ridden by a guy with his right arm completely missing.

Turns out he was part of the escort for the hero and part of the funeral party so I didn't get a chance to talk to him or look at his bike closer.

Yall may have seen this before but it was a new one on me. I'm still slack jawed about it. He was a real slim dude, too. Couldn't have weighted over 150 lbs. Maybe less.

I was impressed.

I to saw a rider with left arm missing at Daytona about 10 yrs. ago. On a Harley. Only thing my buddies and I figured was mabey an automatic tranny or shifting without using the clutch???

A friend of mine's brother-in-law lost his right hand and rides 2 differant harlies. He got it set up with the throttle and clutch on the left handle bar. He has a hook on hios right hand and clamps it on the right grip to help steer. I've rode with him a few times and he handles it quit well. He has done several4-10k rides across the contry, last year he broke down out west and had to rent a truck and bring it back to be repaired. Has a ultralglide and a custom built bike. There has always been somebody that can always figure out how to get around even with some limitation. Back in the early 70's, i meet a guy who was parilized from the waist down and he took a honda cb350 twin and built a platform out of tubing and plywood floor on the right sdie of the bike and used a chaindrive to move the handlebars over to the platform and was able to drive it from his wheelchair. He rode it all over town all the time.

I have a friend that has a left arm missing. He rides a Harley Road Glide, with no issues at all. I know he has used knee clutches on his bikes, and has used a special clutch handle, for his hook to fit in, but now he has a mod in the tranny that lets him shift without a clutch. This is him in this video.

I went to a flat track race about 3 years ago in Paducah, Ky. There was a man there racing that was missing one of his arms. It was amazing to watch him ride. Anyone that has watched flat tracking knows the strength it would take to control these bikes in the curves.
