jburrell Posted July 18, 2012 #1 Posted July 18, 2012 (edited) Is anyone going to this for 2012? I still have 2.5 weeks oif vacation and I am thinking about attending but would like to have company. It looks like this is a very large gathering and there would be some great rides out of the area as well as a number of events to participate in. Would welcome sharing a room in the area and perpahs a ride along on the way up from Houston area. I will probably head from Houston on Wednesday and stop just over the OK line for a night at the casino then head to Fayetteville thrusday morning and stay until Sunday morning. Anyone in Texas going? Anyone intrested in Meeting etc just let me know and we'll share numbers etc. I found a reltatively inexpensive room in Rogers Arkansas 10 miles frm Fayetteville as Fayetteville seems sold out already and would be willing to share with someone who needs a room. LEt me know and we'll get things going Link to event. http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/ James Edited July 18, 2012 by jburrell
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 18, 2012 #2 Posted July 18, 2012 Sometimes it helps to post a link: http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/ Your welcome.
BigLenny Posted July 18, 2012 #3 Posted July 18, 2012 BBB is a very large rally, and very nicely ran. My wife and I attended 2 years in a row, but had to miss last year. I will be headed up to it this year with 2 cousins that ride a Beemer, and a V-Strom. It is said that it ranges from the 3rd to 5th largest rally in the nation. The attendance ranges from 150,000 to 300,000+ depending on the economy. All the major bike mfgs will be there giving test rides, and it is really cool because they are all set up in a huge parking lot, and you ride out into the area from there. You can ride one mfg, then go across the parking lot and ride another, then another. The whole area gets into the rally fever. Fayetteville, Rogers, Springdale, and Bentonville all have events that connect to the rally, be it motocross, stunt shows, a huge car show, live bands, and tons of other stuff. That part of the state has some of the best motorcycle roads in america. You'll see celebs. Three years ago my wife and I stayed in the same hotel as Jesse James and Sandra Bullock. He was there with his West Coast Choppers stuff. Lots of vendors. Thats where I bought my Rivco center stand for my RSTD. they installed it while I waited. Ultimate, Mustang, and other seat mfg will be there. Trailer mfgs, Chrome galor, Blue Tooth headset mfgs, clothing, its all there. You won't be disappointed if you chose to go.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 18, 2012 #4 Posted July 18, 2012 It is said that it ranges from the 3rd to 5th largest rally in the nation. The attendance ranges from 150,000 to 300,000+ depending on the economy. Everything posted was on target, but I think the attendance quoted on the webpage is a bit inflated. I attended the rally in 2009 and by my guess-timate I'd say it was more like 50,000...maybe.....still, its a nice size rally and great fun. A rally of 300,000-500,000 people (400,000 quoted on the website last year) will swamp all the hotels, campgrounds, restaurants and businesses for a 25-50 mile radius...and traffic will reach gridlock status at major intersections everywhere within a 10-20 mile radius...all the gas stations will have lines of bikes out to the streets....and this is NOT the case in Fayetteville...at least not when I was there. Although I disagree with the stated attendance, this is a perfectly good sized rally, with lots of friendly locals and little if ANY price gouging, and in fact, I plan to attend again, if not this year, maybe the next. Have fun!
bilko1 Posted July 18, 2012 #5 Posted July 18, 2012 I am only aprx. 50 miles from Fayetville. Am also the ass. to the mecanic at Eureka Springs Transit. Plenty of overflow into Eureka Springs area. form B.B.B. I have plenty of camping :crackup:space, (if you don't mind the cows) I should be off on Thur. Fri. Sat. that week. Bilko 870-350-0365 call if you want to hook up. (that mean's anyone coming to the area)
oldschool Posted July 19, 2012 #6 Posted July 19, 2012 (edited) It might just be possible for me to go.......pm me with your plans. Edited July 19, 2012 by oldschool
Solodadof2 Posted July 19, 2012 #7 Posted July 19, 2012 Good luck getting a room at this point that you do not have to pay an arm and a leg for. I go to the rally every 2 years. There is a place outside of town called greenland that has camping and a mini rally (brian is a very nice guy). This rally is rapidly becoming as popular as Sturgis. We are taking 14 bikes down Laborday weekend to Harrison so we can do a bunch of the riding they have available in Arkansas. BBBQ isnt a great opportunity to mix riding and rallying and take full advantage of both.
captdrac Posted July 19, 2012 #8 Posted July 19, 2012 You're going to a great time! I've been going for 3+ years. It gets bigger and better each year. I'm coming from WI. Though I wouldn't be able to ride w/ you from Houston, We could meet up. I got a hotel in Van Buren which is appox 50 miles away. I'm looking for a hotel/motel closer to the fun. Here's a few pics I took from 2011. A rider's dream rally. Venders, dealer parties, Ozark mountains, RIDES, FOOD, etc... If you don't have fun here, there's no place on this planet you could.
BigLenny Posted July 19, 2012 #9 Posted July 19, 2012 50,000 or 400,000, whats a few thousand difference between friends? I do believe the 400,000 figure they give is high, but 50,000 is surely low. This thing packs hotels for 50 miles out. One explanation for why you don't see total traffic gridlock, might be because the events are spread out across 4-5 cities and not just in a central area. This is a 4-5 city area that has a population of 500,000, and they are used to handling and moving large crowds several times a year with events like the University of Arkansas games that bring in close to 100K crowds to the games. Whatever the count is, this is a fun, clean, well ran rally in a beautiful area of the middle part of the country.
BigLenny Posted July 19, 2012 #10 Posted July 19, 2012 I highly recommend to anyone who attends the rally to ride over to Eureka Springs and check this little town out. Very very cool place. You feel like you're in another country while you are there.
Brake Pad Posted July 19, 2012 #11 Posted July 19, 2012 Eureka Springs, is a nice place to visit. I'm going to miss, that event , But God willing , I'll be in that neck of the woods in Sept.
Phoneman1981 Posted July 19, 2012 #12 Posted July 19, 2012 Hello Everyone: Thanks for all of the good comments on this rally. We were invited to go last year but could not make it. The more I learn the more it interests me. Hopefully we can attend someday. Grandson starts school this year so vacations after september 1st will be less likely to happen in the future. But one never knows.
Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 19, 2012 #13 Posted July 19, 2012 Maybe I will take this opportunity to shamelessly plug a couple of videos I posted on youtube: [ame] [/ame] [ame]http://youtu.be/qV1FbzBh51g[/ame]

playboy Posted July 20, 2012 #16 Posted July 20, 2012 Would gladly offer a stop over for those heading north but I will be in Colorado that week. One suggestion is contact the http://www.arkansas.com and request ride maps. There are 4 different rides out of Rodgers all returning back to Rodgers. I personal have not had the opportunity to attend but like Solodadof2 said there will be so much to due there is no way to see it or ride it all in one weekend. If you get the chance for a ride you will see enough you will definitely want to make a return trip.
jburrell Posted September 10, 2012 Author #18 Posted September 10, 2012 Due to continuing issues I am canceling this trip. Thanks to all those that replied. Hoepfully soon I will be able to take a trip without these health issues arising. Whatabummer!
