Freebird Posted July 8, 2012 #1 Posted July 8, 2012 I am GLAD that this day is over. I got up at 4:00 a.m. this morning to take the boat out on Lake Erie for a few relaxing hours of yellow perch fishing. They really were NOT biting. Temps got up to about 96 F and me and my buddy John cooked in the sun for about 6 hours and only caught about 15 fish. Got home and cleaned up because Eileen and I were going to a friends house for a little get together. She asked us to bring our Ipod because it has some good music on it. Got there and the Ipod locked up right off. Wouldn't power off or do anything. So....it was down for the night. Headed home and around midnight, hit a good sized deer in my new to me Chevy Avalanche. Took out the grill and messed up the right front fender a bit. Will look at it closer tomorrow but I guess it could have been worse. At least we weren't on the bike. Got home around 12:30. Eileen had taken her little YAP YAP Sheltie with us. Got home and she took off across the yard barking and our larger dog running along right behind her to see what all the fuss was about. That ended up with BOTH of them getting sprayed by a skunk. So...we have been outside until 1:00 in the morning washing two mutts. I'm going to bet now. I hope the bed doesn't fall down.
Redneck Posted July 8, 2012 #2 Posted July 8, 2012 Ouch! Go take a nap and hit it again in the morning.
Evan Posted July 8, 2012 #4 Posted July 8, 2012 My wife claims that bad things happen in three's. By my count, you may have hit four during your bad day if you count the fish not biting. She also believes that after three bad things happening to you, you will be on a good things roll. Good luck today!
bongobobny Posted July 8, 2012 #5 Posted July 8, 2012 Yup! Had days like that! Makes you appreciate the good days even more...
Sylvester Posted July 8, 2012 #6 Posted July 8, 2012 I can't make your day any better or worse, but I can tell you all about "skunked dogs". My five have all been skunked at different times in the last three years. Forget tomato juice since it doesn't work. Natures Own skunk smell remover works and so does Massengill douche.
BuckShot Posted July 8, 2012 #7 Posted July 8, 2012 My grandmother always said bad things happen in 3's...if more than that you will have a long run of good luck. Better buy a lottery ticket:080402gudl_prv: Hope you at least got a road kill permit and put that deer in the freezer....
ragtop69gs Posted July 8, 2012 #8 Posted July 8, 2012 Mix a soultion of hydrogen peroxide and dish soap and bathe the dogs with it several times, it will get rid of 90% of the stink. Another method, but one the dogs won't like, build a smoldering leaf fire, hog tie the dog and slip a pole throught their legs, suspend the dog in the smoke from the leafs, the enzymes in the smoke will neutralize the skunk odor. I did say the dogs won't like it, but it does work!
etcswjoe Posted July 8, 2012 #9 Posted July 8, 2012 Sounds like yall just need to take the day off and go ride.
saddlebum Posted July 8, 2012 #10 Posted July 8, 2012 (edited) Ah Yes the skunk game ......Know it all too well. My Airedale gets into that mess at least twice a year and sometimes more. Don't know why he persists, but it seems the more often he gets sprayed, the more determined he is to get even.......Lucky me:bang head: This is the solution I use, and it works extremely well. 1 Qt 3% hydrogen peroxide 1/4 cup baking soda 1 tsp. liquid soap (sunlight or polmolive seem to work best) Mix it just before you use it Don,t store any mixed solution, in a sealed container. 1- Wet down the dog with a hose. 2- Mix the ingredients together in a container. 3- Slowly pour the mixture over the dog while rubbing it into the fur. 4- After the dog has been bathed in this solution rinse it down with the hose, and the dog will be odor free. Double the amounts shown above, for a large dog (60 LBS and up),but if you have a small to medium size animal, the recipe listed should do just fine. Edited July 8, 2012 by saddlebum

Yama Mama Posted July 8, 2012 #14 Posted July 8, 2012 Well I really am sorry about all of that happened to you on one lousy day. I am glad that you did not get hurt, and I hope they can fix your new truck up like new. That is why Ron says he does not buy me a new car, because it is so upsetting when they get a bump. I guess that is as good as any reason. I hope Gracie gets all cleaned up. I bet she is really upset about that old skunk critter. Yama Mama
Freebird Posted July 8, 2012 Author #15 Posted July 8, 2012 Well, things actually look a little better this morning. We scrubbed the dogs with about 3 different kinds of soap and shampoo last night and there is very little skunk odor this morning. The truck took it better than I thought. I pulled the front fender liner this morning so that I could get to the back side of the fender and lower bumper cover. The bumper cover actually just popped out of the fender. I was able to loosen the bolts and pull it back into place. It looks fine. There is a about a 3" crack in the plastic at the bottom of the lower bumper/air dam but you can't hardly see it unless you are down on your hands and knees. I'll do a plastic repair on the back side of it to keep it from cracking any further and it will be fine. I've looked on Ebay and I can get a new grill and chevy emblem for about $200.00 total so I think that's about all this is going to cost me. The fish will bite another day and my son got the Ipod working again. Life is good. Now I've just got to get caught up on a few things before going out of town again tomorrow morning.

Marcarl Posted July 9, 2012 #24 Posted July 9, 2012 Just glad that everything turned out well for you two. Bad days happen, it's one of those things we brought on ourselves years ago, actually they were supposed to be all bad, but by grace we are enjoying lots of good ones in this country. Be Blessed!
PBJ Posted July 9, 2012 #25 Posted July 9, 2012 well glad it wasn't worse. Remember what Bill Cosby "It could ALWAYS be worse".
