midnightrider1300 Posted July 4, 2012 #1 Posted July 4, 2012 ok They can sell a whole MC for $500.00 & most parts for ours cost more than that....So tell me How the can sell a MC for $500.00 ?? and you know they are not going to lose $$$ on it... http://blog.leatherup.com/2012/07/03/yamaha-sell-500-dollar-motorcycle-in-india-cheapest-yamaha/#.T_N1ipE0m1e
mini-muffin Posted July 4, 2012 #2 Posted July 4, 2012 Looks like they'll be making money on the parts from what the article says. Having seen video on the way they drive in India they'll make plenty on parts. Plus it's a 100 to 125 CC motor. Margaret
midnightventure Posted July 4, 2012 #3 Posted July 4, 2012 They sell very cheap cars in India too. Made by Tata. Cheap labor and no safety standards.
a1bummer Posted July 4, 2012 #4 Posted July 4, 2012 (edited) http://www.yamaha-motor-india.com/product/ybr/specs.html Some specs here. Torque, 7.8 N*m (Newton meters) = 5.8 Foot-pounds @ 6000 rpms 7.6Ps = 7.6 Horsepower @ 7500 rpms 123Kg = 271 pounds I wonder what kind of mileage it gets. Looks alright and it would be nice around town. I wonder how much it would cost if they were brought to the US. Bill Edited July 4, 2012 by a1bummer

Guest tx2sturgis Posted July 4, 2012 #6 Posted July 4, 2012 I bought a scooter with a bigger engine, disc brakes, automatic transmission, and plenty of underseat storage for $600. It gets about 60 mpg, goes about 60 mph, and costs just $35 a year for insurance. Cheap bikes can be bought here too. But the fact is, we Americans dont want disposable 110cc bikes with drum brakes, a 'long seat' and a 4 speed transmission. So we dont get them.

RSTDdog Posted July 6, 2012 #10 Posted July 6, 2012 They sell very cheap cars in India too. Made by Tata. Cheap labor and no safety standards. IIRC Tata now owns Jaguar......... Litigation and product liability defense are among the largest costs associated with Motorcycle ( and other recreational products UTV, ATV, PWC, etc) sales in the USA. They exceed the actual manufacturing cost of the product and effect the end cost of the product substantially.
