buddy Posted June 28, 2012 #1 Posted June 28, 2012 I'm looking at buying a Long fram Tractor 1529 and was wondering if anyone here has one or used a long tractor in the past and any info. as for good or bad? I searched the net and seen good reviews on them but I was wondering if any in the family here has any views on them? Its kinda rough looking like me lol. but it runs really good no blow by and I see no leaks-diesel-oil-hyd. etc etc has new tires and lifts the 5ft brush hog with no problems so hyd. seem good.
Sylvester Posted June 28, 2012 #2 Posted June 28, 2012 I have never heard of a Long, but there are many tractors out there. I have a 1946 Ford 2N that has served me faithfully. This tractor was purchased on April 6, 1946. This is the day that he received the news that I was born. He has always said that the news was a good omen. This machine is original and never overhauled, but I am thinking of restoring it this next winter. Get what you want and love it like I do mine.
playboy Posted June 28, 2012 #3 Posted June 28, 2012 I had a 360 Long think a 78 model it was a good reliable tractor. Not sure on getting parts now or if there still making them. Mine was 36 to 40 hp and never had any real problems with it. Ran a 9 ft bushhog 6' disk 5' hay cutter and about anything else I wanted a tractor to do. My biggest complaint with mine was the 6 speed transmission I just prefer a 8 speed for pto to ground speed ratio. Other folks around here use to have a lot of them and had good service with them.
Marcarl Posted June 29, 2012 #4 Posted June 29, 2012 Long Manufacturing built its first tractor in 1948. The company, however, soon stopped building their own and began importing tractors from Uzina Tractorul Brasov (UTB) and some Landinis. Long filed for bankruptcy in 1985, but returned by 1987 after a reorganization. In 1998, Long Agribusiness was purchased by the Escort Group of India. The Long name was dropped in favor of the Farmtrac brand. Farmtrac North America stopped business in late 2008.

You would think with all that knowledge you would be able to get your "moderator " title fixed so you wouldn't be sneaking up on us. But thanks didn't know that about Long and there history.

But thanks didn't know that about Long and there history. Neither did I know that, I just cut and pasted from some web site. I never heard about a Long tractor, but now I did. And as far as sneaking up on you,, that was the intention, now you went and spoiled all my fun. I'll have to come up with something new.....
mm482 Posted June 29, 2012 #8 Posted June 29, 2012 Former Long Manufacturing facility to fall soon Editor and PublisherJohn H. WalkerThe Daily SouthernerFri Mar 23, 2012, 05:09 PM EDT TARBORO — A little more than 64 years after William “Bill” Long founded the facility that would employ thousands of people over the years at 111 Fairview St., the buildings are being prepped for demolition. Electric crews from the Town of Tarboro were on-hand Thursday afternoon, unhooking power cables so that crews inside could pull the nearly 150-foot piece of cable with a tractor. “We heard these buildings are going to be torn down,” one of the workers was told. “Yep. They’re getting them ready now,” he replied. While electrical cable was being pulled in one building, fire extinguishers were gathered together by door openings in one building and row after row of 18-inch wide Mercury vapor lights lined the floor in another. The facility, which was purchased by Rogers, Ark.-based Montana Tractors in November 2008, is still listed in that company’s name on the Edgecombe County tax rolls. Montana bought the operations for $14.1 million and now pays taxes on a property assessed at $1,399,979. Once the buildings are torn down, $1,141,379 in assessed value goes away. In the 1970s, Long Manufacturing Co. employed 1,100 workers in Tarboro and another 400 in Davenport, Iowa. By 1980, with the plight of the American farmer in what looked to be a death spiral at the time, employment dropped to 750 and then, by the time four creditors filed a petition in U.S. Bankruptcy Court asking that the company be placed in bankruptcy, the workforce was down to 400. http://static.cnhi.zope.net/sites/images/pg/images/pg_top2_sm.gif
kevin5549 Posted June 29, 2012 #9 Posted June 29, 2012 I got a good friend with a Long. It looks rough but runs like a top. Parts are still around and there are a couple of web sites that deal only in Long parts. Just do a google search for Long Parts. Kevin
