Roadstar Posted June 28, 2012 #1 Posted June 28, 2012 Ok, looking for a little help. 2012 RSV, everyone says they can't hear me well on the CB. They say it sounds like I'm whispering. Changed out the factory head gear and mic and replaced with J&M top of the line unit, no change. Changed out the antennas (Marshall Mod), no change. I can find no way to adjust the mic gain. Any ideas???? Don't know what to check next. Thanks. John
Rick Haywood Posted June 28, 2012 #2 Posted June 28, 2012 There is not any mic gain on it but sounds like the issue may be with the cb unit its self. I'd go see the dealer since it is new.
MikeWa Posted June 28, 2012 #3 Posted June 28, 2012 Mic gain adjustment is internal inside the cb unit. It can only be adjusted with the cb unit partially disassembled. Try this cup your right hand over your mic and mouth while transmitting. Yes I know you will have to be on cruise control or have a throttle lock. Also try removing the wind cover off the mic and moving the mic very close to your mouth. Almost touching. Hope this helps. Mike

gibvel Posted June 28, 2012 #5 Posted June 28, 2012 If the antenna is on the correct side may want to check the SWR. If you have a truck stop close by you might see if someone there can check it if you don't have the equipment.
Roadstar Posted June 28, 2012 Author #6 Posted June 28, 2012 The antenna is located on the correct side. This SWR is 2.0, not great but not terrible. Someone had suggested trying a balloon wrapped over the mic, then put the wind sock back on but that didn't help either. I'm beginning to think Rick may be right, may have to go back to the dealer. John

John Before you go back to the dealer make sure eveything is put back to stock.
wes0778 Posted June 28, 2012 #8 Posted June 28, 2012 Just curious, but have you tried it from the passenger plug?
Roadstar Posted June 29, 2012 Author #9 Posted June 29, 2012 Wes, No I haven't, I see where your going with that. I'll check it out. Thanks. John
Jayceesfolly Posted June 30, 2012 #10 Posted June 30, 2012 I have a 1st gen and it has a mute button, not sure what your setup is, but do you have a mute button on your radio controls? Also check the intercom button? Jim
Roadstar Posted June 30, 2012 Author #11 Posted June 30, 2012 Took the bike into the dealer. They didn't even try to figure it out, they ordered a new complete audio unit to include CB unit and "main brain unit" in the fairing. Should be here in a few days. We'll see if that fixes it. John
Midrsv Posted June 30, 2012 #12 Posted June 30, 2012 If your mic is on a flixible arm pull the wind sock off and make sure that the mic is pointed toward you. I've seen them get turned where the mic is pointin forward. Makes it real hard to hear then. Dennis

John Hows it working now?
spke Posted October 1, 2012 #14 Posted October 1, 2012 Find someone from this wonderful org that lives near you with a headset helmet and switch helmets for a few minutes. Make sure you are about 100ft apart when you test. That should tell you if it's your headest(mic) or the radio. Personally I wouldn't let ANY dealer near my bike to change the main computer and radio for ANY reason. You can't even begin to imagine the problems they can cause inside your fairing.
