Wife and I are going out of town this weekend for our longest ride yet. I think I'd like to at least get myself a lambskin or sheepskin seat cover for the ride. It's kind of late in the week though. So what would you folks suggest for a 2006 RSTD that I may be able to have shipped to me by Friday?

(anything on amazon would be preferred because I've got an amazon prime membership so get free 2 day shipping)

Thanks!

Sadly no. I've got to head out to Madison for a family reunion. I'd love to have been able to make the meetup though.

Go to your local auto parts store and get a sheep skin cover for a car seat and cut to size. Or if you are not far from an Ikea they have them. Some leathers stores have them as well. good luck!!!

irbk, go to www.aerostich.com, and look at their stuff online. It is a great company to deal with, and you are relativerly close to them, so they can have it to you by Friday.

Most of the folks that work there are motorcycle riders, and the owner..Andy.. is very serious about quality products.

Have a fun and safe ride.

Oh, I'd totally not thought of that idea!

What direction are you heading out of town? If you are going thru Chicago, stop at the IKEA in Glendale Heights (I think Glendale Heights - google IKEA for the address). It is near O'Hare.

IKEA sells sheep skins for $30. They are in a big box and you can pick thru them to find the size and shape you want. They are generally large enough to cover both seats. Take a Leatherman or a sharp knife with you to trim as needed. You may want to also take a length of light cord to create tie downs (just poke holes in the sheepskin leather side and tie it thru). If you have a back rest, just put a slit in the skin and run it over the backrest post. Make sure to take the tool to remove the backrest from the post.

I picked up a new one at the IKEA in Minneapolis a couple of weeks ago, trimmed, and installed in the parking lot. Took about 5 minutes. Rode for about 1500 miles and it was great.

I'm familiar with that IKEA. I'm about 90 minutes or so north of it so it's not at all on the way. I think I may run out to the local Yamaha stealership at lunch to see what they have for sale off the shelf.

Sportland 2 on 13th and Rawson in Oak Creek, also has various seat covers to choose from.

I might be there tonight getting one for the weekend.

Madison is halfway to MD. Just sayin.

Sportland is where I bought the bike from. Was thinkin about stopping there on the way home to see what they had off the shelf.

Yes I know Madison is 1/2 way but my family would be cranky if I skipped out. Next time when nothing conflicts!

****EDIT*****

Just called over to sportland. They don't carry anything in a generic or specific seat cover for the Yamaha. Special order only according to Jamie.

Do'h! Just called over to Don & Roy's as well. They don't have anything in the area of seat covers either. I may just take the suggestion of the car seat cover cut down to size. I'm a little bit worried about if that would be slippery though.

Or one of those rubber waffle sheets that they make for toolbox drawers.

Hmmm, the rubber waffle sheet (as you put it) glued to the bottom of the cover (I don't want to glue it to the seat) might just be the combo I need.

Looks like I've got to go to Farm & Fleet! (if you knew me, you'd know that I've got a relationship with F&F, while not so bad this summer, last summer I didn't go 3 days without having to get something there)

Is it the cute checkout gal??????:whistling:

Pff, I wish. I've really yet to run across one of those! Altho, the wife did work at Bed, Bath, and Beyond last year. She was occasionally on the register, so then it was the cute checkout gal!

Just curious how far are you going?

Heading over to Madison, WI. It's about a 2.5 hr ride, which will be the longest ride either of us have done to date. Before I got the 2006 RSTD, I had a Honda Shadow. Wasn't big enough to ride the wife and I so I never really went anywhere on it. Just a little tooling around town to to work and back (about 40 miles each way). I think the longest ride I did was to Janesville which is around 90 minutes or so.

We both want to up our riding stamina and the trip to Madison this weekend will be a big step. I'd just like to make sure we are both comfortable.

Just curious how far are you going? My wife bought one of the gel pads from Wally World and she likes it just my :2cents:

I went to wally world and could not find a gel pad in the store. I also can not find it in their online site. I thought someone mentioned a while back that they discontinued it.:confused24::confused24:

No worries! I think I'm liking the "cut the car seat cover down" idea.

I went out tonight to try and find a lambskin or sheepskin car seat cover that I could cut down. Believe it or not, I could not find one! The best I could come up with was a seat cover that had a center strip that was actual sheepskin (not big enough to cover the cycle seat though) and the rest was synthetic.

So I guess I'll just shop around at some of the links that I've seen suggested in other posts and not have any cushy for my tushy this weekend. Such is life.

Thanks for all the advice guys!

Ok, so I'm giving up on having anything for this weekend. I've seen a few sites recommended and I've looked at a bunch of them. They all seem to come up pretty similar. ~$70-80 for the seat and closer to $120 if you want to cover the drivers seat and pillion (which I do). So now I guess new question.

Which has the best fit and does it matter?

Here are the places I've looked at that I remember (any other suggestions welcome)

http://sheepskinfactory.com

http://www.blacksheeptrading.com

http://www.alaskaleatheronline.com

http://www.wildthingsfur.com

http://www.hartcoseats.com

http://www.aerostich.com

http://www.sheepyhollow.com

Basically if I'm going to be dropping $120 on a seat cover I want to be really satisfied that I purchased the right thing.

Suggestions?
