I was out last night with the radio off and noticed that there is a loud clunk when I shift. Never heard it before. Wondering if I should be checking on something or if this is normal

unless there is something wrong with mine also......I think it is kinda normal for the RSV. But the experts here will have more info on it. Clunky gears and winny clutch.....don't you love it.

clunk, bang, whine, whisle, rattle, they all have some unique noise that will.... Drive you crazy. Kind of like a wife:yikes: But I still love both of them.

Shifting gears at low rpm will result in a clunk. A clunk into first gear accompanied by a jerk when first starting up after it has been sitting overnight is caused by the clutch plates sticking together. To remedy this just blip the throttle while you have the clutch pulled in before putting the bike in gear. If you won't lug the engine while cruising around town, I don't think you'll hear the clunk while shifting. Try it, you'll be amazed at the difference!

The clunking, to an extent, is somewhat normal. All my RSV's have done it, even the new '08 I had with 1 mile on it when I bought it. As long as your not hearing any additional noises from the gearbox (less the whine of the clutch basket if yours is so inclined) you'll be fine.

Thanks everyone. Never noticed it with the radio on so it must not be to loud, just one of those things the first time you notice it, makes you say MMMMM. Have a great weekend everyone
