My sidestand switch isn't working properly, and was looking for another one. As the part is discontinued, I was wondering........where do I get one? This is for my 84

I have a frame for an 86, I think it still has the switch attached, I can check it and see, dont know if it works or not, but you are welcome to it if you want it.

I just replaced the switch on my 86 (partially). Please tell me how to get the top screw in.Bottom was easy but cannot get to the top one.Help?????

got the part yesterday, and tried it today. After about 5-6 seconds, it shuts the bike off, with a lot of chugging. If I am not mistaken, it should shut off right away. So, would you say that it does not work? This is the same thing that mine does, but the bike runs longer. If it is not the switch, where else could I look? Anyone have any good ideas? Thanks

Try jumpering all three wires together and see if the bike keeps running. Word of warning, with all 3 wires tied together you can start the bike IN GEAR so make absolutely positively sure you are in neutral before starting. If you ohm out your switch, one set is NC and the other set is NO and for each position the contacts, when closed, should read almost zero ohms. I had one that was bad that the continuity read around 8 ohms, and even that slight amount of contact resistance will make the circuit malfunction...

When I got my 86 5 years ago the switch was missing.The wires were jumped together but the bike would only start in gear with the clutch lever pulled.But with that said I had a switch for about 3 years and finally decided to install it.I got the bottom screw in but there is no way to get the top screw in.Can someone please tell me how to get the top screw in.The switch works fine but I'm a little leary about having only one screw in it.

If the switch checks out with an ohmmeter, you might have an issue with the sidestand relay. More info on attached pdf file.

 

Does anyone have an idea where I can locate this sidestand relay? The switch I got from DragonRider had some resistance, so I dremmeled it out and opened it up. Cleaned the contacts, put it back together (re-epoxied the back), tested it, and ohms out now. The only thing, is that it does not kill the bike. I will post pictures later

The sidestand relay is a unique style in the Venture. Only one to be a (NC) configuration.

The relay has the contacts closed in the de-energised condition (NC). When voltage is applied to the coil, the relay contacts become 'open' and don't pass current through them.

The side stand relay has a blue base and the connector in the wiring harness is blue also. Will be above the head light on a 1st gen.

As you can see by this first pict, I used a dremmel to remove the epoxy around the outer edge.

The four tabs that are dimpled in, I punched out at this point. The base came right out with just a little pulling.

The white plastic piece inside holding the copper plate slides along with the plunger making contact with the base. Anyway, the copper plate had some corrosion on it, so I cleaned it up. I put the switch back together, and clamped it, to make sure it was seated good, then epoxied the outer edge
