Guest tx2sturgis Posted January 14, 2008 #1 Posted January 14, 2008 Tools. We all love em. I found this little gem at Wal-Mart, but you can buy them online too. It's a little ball-ended metric hex key wrench, that I have been carrying on the Venture for about a month now. Seems to be well made, and sure comes in handy on the bike. The main thing I use it for is taking off the seat, splitting the fairing, and general tightening of loose fasteners. Folding hex wrenches are nothing new, but this one has the ball-ends, so its much handier than most. Speaking of tools, I wonder what the riders on here recommend as far as tools they like to carry on the bike. We all know the little cheapo UJM toolkit that comes with the Venture is almost worthless....I know Cruz tools have a good reputation. So what do yall carry on board? http://www.sheffield-tools.com/images/6150.jpg http://www.sheffield-tools.com/pc-weekender-series-folding-hex-key-kit-p-1112.html
Eck Posted January 14, 2008 #2 Posted January 14, 2008 Yep, I have one also... comes in handy and packs very well in small places... It is a good tool to have on the road....!
RPG Posted January 14, 2008 #3 Posted January 14, 2008 I like the way it folds up like a pocket knife. Gotta get one!
Guest Deek901 Posted January 18, 2008 #4 Posted January 18, 2008 "....... So what do yall carry on board?...." Uh, cell phone and a credit card...... and a guardian bell for good luck ? I probably don't carry when I will actually need, but over the years I've figured out what size wrenches and hex heads I use when I'm adjusting and tightening fittings. I get a spare of that size and toss it in the saddle bag, along with the toolkit that came with the bike. One thing I'm glad I got is a 12 vdc compressor. That's the one tool I always seem to use at least once on tours, just to top off a tire.
Squidley Posted January 18, 2008 #5 Posted January 18, 2008 I put a leather bag on the front of my '99 and had these tools in it Dual side wrenches (meaning 2 sizes on 1 wrench) in 8, 10 12 13 14 and 15mm 4 in one screwdriver (4 bits in the handle) 8" Cresent wrench (which doubles as a hammer ) Small slip joint pliers 3/8" Ratchet w/small ext. and the same size sockets as the above wrenches plus a 17 and 18 mm This little kit from Canadian tire (this is an awsome little kit ) http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443279726&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672892&bmUID=1200670870963&deptid=1408474396672839&ctgrid=1408474396672844&subctgrid=1408474396672892 Metric allenheads Electrical tape and lengths of electrical wire Thats about it, it may seem like overkill, but when you end up 2K away from home, sometimes you just need a warm fuzzy about your ability to fix a problem Oh yeah the cell phone and CC are there too
