Yammer Dan Posted June 21, 2012 #1 Posted June 21, 2012 On the way back from MD my radio crapped out. Stopped at rest area to look and antenna was draging behind me. Broke off the rack. Question is what racks fit?? 85- 93??86-93?? or 83-93?? Ithink it is 86-93 but wanted to check. Several on fle-Bay right now. Just missed one for 109 bucks forgot to bid. Maybe he will relist it. It was 86 pretty sure that would fit my 86.....
Flyinfool Posted June 21, 2012 #2 Posted June 21, 2012 Cant you just take the rack to your welding class and hot glue it back together?
KIC Posted June 21, 2012 #3 Posted June 21, 2012 None of your other 47, or is it 52, bikes have a trunk rack ?
abnormalwon Posted June 21, 2012 #4 Posted June 21, 2012 Tough crowd, guess if your looking for sympathy you better check Websters.
dacheedah Posted June 21, 2012 #5 Posted June 21, 2012 I took the wife to the sympathy, I'm more of a rock guy myself . . .
Yammer Dan Posted June 21, 2012 Author #6 Posted June 21, 2012 I could fix it but there were several on E-Bay and I thought just replace it??? Just not sure what they changed on them when. The 85 is bigger trunk but is mounting rack same as 86-93?? Will 83-84 work?? Just thinking. Gets me in trouble. I probally will take it and use my reborn welding skills on it.
eusa1 Posted June 21, 2012 #7 Posted June 21, 2012 I took the wife to the sympathy, I'm more of a rock guy myself . . . thats some funny sheet!!
Wizard765 Posted June 21, 2012 #8 Posted June 21, 2012 83 and 84 are the same. 85 stands alone. 86 and up are the same... I have a spare 84 but that won't do you any good on your 86
Yammer Dan Posted June 21, 2012 Author #9 Posted June 21, 2012 Thats about what I was thinking. Only got one 86. I've have to weld or replace. If I hadn't forgot to bid on the 86 I would have just replaced. it looked good.
pmelah Posted June 21, 2012 #10 Posted June 21, 2012 here is some sound financial advise everyone buy stock in elmers hot glue factory before dan reborns his hot glue welding skills we all could make a fortune on this:whistling: :rotf:
dacheedah Posted June 21, 2012 #11 Posted June 21, 2012 Actually had that happen on my first gen, I used a piece of aluminum to hook up under the trunk, drilled it for the antenna and went with that and never had another problem.. i think the piece I used was almost a 1/4" thick x 1 1/4 wide scrap I had at the time.
bongobobny Posted June 21, 2012 #14 Posted June 21, 2012 OK, the basic rack for the '83 and '84 had some extra metal added to it for '85 and the antenna bracket is longer to accomodate the bigger trunk. Then they welded the two angular bars on the '86 thru '93 but the initial '83 rack is the same as always, just added extra stuff to it! That being said, if you are coming to the international Dan, I have an extra MK2 rack you can have...
Yammer Dan Posted June 21, 2012 Author #15 Posted June 21, 2012 I think it has been taken care of Bob. The Warden has been talking to "strange" men while I am out again!!
Stanman Posted June 21, 2012 #16 Posted June 21, 2012 I am guessing you are talking about the bracket the trunk mounts to. I have a brand new one that is for a removable trunk that I will sell cheap plus actual shipping. The part number is; 54K-28475-00 if that helps.
