Archie Posted June 16, 2012 #1 Posted June 16, 2012 Hi there. I am new to the site as well as (maybe) about to be new to a Venture. I'm thinking of buying an '84. What should I be looking for in terms of potential problems? I have heard that the stator can be expensive to replace... Thanks

KIC Posted June 17, 2012 #4 Posted June 17, 2012 Here is some information on the MK1. Also, a document on the information to check when looking at a bike. This was supplied to me from this forum and I printed it off and used it when looking at my 89. I also used it when I bought my 87.CHECKLIST for 1st Generation VENTURES.doc
bongobobny Posted June 17, 2012 #5 Posted June 17, 2012 Being an older bike, it will require TLC no matter what make or model. The 1st gen MK1 is an incredable touring bike with the heart of a sports bike. Gi9ve it some love and care and it will reward you with many many miles of pleasure! The engines are pretty much bullet proof, but on the 84 there was a 2nd gear problem that may or may not be fixed on the one you are looking at. Also, the MK1's brakes need improvng, though adequate, just barely. The MK2, slightly slower, has better brakes, but the '84 can be updated but requires swapping out the front forks. Swing a leg over it and take it for a test drive. Warning, they are a tall and heavy bike and just a tad top heavy but once you get used to it an incredable cruiser...
