According to the color chart here on the site, these were the colors for 1987

1987 blue T ? ( blue ) / Orion Silver

1987 grey T Aurora Silver/ ( ? )

1987 gold DS/DT Alluvial Gold/ Silky Gold

1987 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown

1987 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown

1987 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold

Based on the above, I would guess my paint was either of the two in bold.

So, which color combo do you think I have, and is there any matching touch up paint out there? I know it is a long shot, but why not check.

So guys, no opinion as to it's color?

At the moment I can't find the paperwork on it which might indicate the color combo.

Is there a color code located on/in the bike somewhere?

Any educated guesses?

I gotta go with copper brown and birch brown.

Are there metalic flakes in the darker to make it coppery up close or when the sun hits it a certain way?

Birch like the tree....man thats tough really.

One thing though....its a nice color combo.

Yes, it does look like metal flakes

And thanks for the compliment, it is a sharp color combo.

I saw your other post first and posted there. Here is a link to the color codes once you figure out which color you have. '87 is page 22

And that is a really nice combo!

The 1986 came in a dark black cherry and ALSO in "Copper Brown and Birch Brown" as shown here.

It doesn't look (to me) like yours is either of the latter colors.

That one certainly looks like more of a copper color. Out of curiosity, how do you know for certain it is the Copper & Birch color?

That picture is from a 1986 Venture for sale and that year's colors were the wonderful Black Cherry and the above.

Ok, but according to the 1986 color chart, there were these different choices;

1986 gold DS/DT - - like 1200 gold - -

1986 brown DS/DT Copper Brown/ Birch Brown

1986 brown DS/DT Elegant Brown/ Imperial Brown

1986 black DS/DT Urushi Black/ Marshall Gold

So while I tend to agree that the one you posted looks more like a copper color than mine, it still could be one of the others like the 87 choices.

It's an odd problem... but the coloring on yours DOES look great. I almost got an 87 in that color because I thought it looked so sharp.

but decided on the Urushi 86... just looks black until under good sun and then the cherry color comes out.

The 1986 Venture sales brochure lists:

Venture Midnight Silver

VR Urushi Black or Birch Brown

and SHOWS the Utushi Black, the plain Venture with a "silver" highlight and another Royale with a perfect match to the fairing piece I posted earlier.

Now I believe birch "bark" is almost a stark white while birch wood is normally a honey color... and I've NEVER seen an 86 in anything but the Urushi or the two colors shown on that fairing piece. What ever the heck they really are.

Just to add to the confusion, using the 2002 Road Star Silverado and looking at Color Rite, they list Imperial Brown as a Taupe variant.

By the way, I've NEVER heard of an 87 in Urushi Black.

And why Color Rite dropped these years from their charts is another question.. is it all some deep secret?

And we shouldn't miss the complications of some "different" colors found in Canada and Europe???

Those first pictures look white and Grey metallic to me. Unless the color is way off, there isn't any brown or gold on the bike other than the stripe.

Check out the later pictures with a gold and brown that is easy to spot.

Is there a chance the bike has been repainted?

Great post, and thanks for taking the time to include pictures of your bike and the brochure. It has led me to an idea of how to get a more definitive way to determine the various colors. (see new thread)

Also thanks for the positive comment about my color combo.

Just to add to the confusion,

Please no, it is bad enough as it is. ;)

The white looking color is more of a cream, and you are the 2nd person to say the contrast color looks "grey".

As to the repaint, no it is original.
