SilvrT Posted June 12, 2012 #2 Posted June 12, 2012 http://www.tomroush.com/inventory-details/title/indianapolis-in-westfield-in-used-1982-chevrolet-corvette/vehicleid/504376135-3004b2 I must be seeing things wrong... the speedo only goes up to 85 mph ??? Still a bit high IMO, but much better. If only I had the $$$ http://www.fritzinfishers.com/1978_Chevrolet_Corvette_Fishers_IN_150882095.veh The second one shows 140 mph
Flyinfool Posted June 12, 2012 #3 Posted June 12, 2012 You can always go in and make an offer. Worst he can do is say no. I got a nice truck from a dealer that way once, I went in and made an offer on it once a month for 4 months. Every offer was $1000 less than the previous one. They finally accepted my last offer during a blizzard just to get it off the lot it was the ONLY sale of the day during that storm.
BuddyRich Posted June 12, 2012 #4 Posted June 12, 2012 Those years are some of the nicest looking I think but the poorest performing models. I was looking at buying one. Decide the it would be a C5 or C6 model when I get one. The mid to late 70's was a bad time for muscle cars because of fuel prices.
Sideoftheroad Posted June 12, 2012 Author #5 Posted June 12, 2012 No way the dealer can justify a 24k price tag on a 30 yr old vette unless it is 0 miles and well documented that it was owned by a dead celebrity or has some factory installed option that no other vette of the same make/model/year has. As it is they are looking for a P.T. Barnum or it will just sit there for months on end until they need the real estate space and send it to the auction block where they will get a realistic price for it. If you look at their site they also have a late 70's Lincoln Mark V for 6k. Again not in this economy. Not that great of a color either. At least the vette from the 2nd link is an anniversary edition.
warriorhoneybee Posted June 13, 2012 #6 Posted June 13, 2012 i wouldn't swear to it but i don't think thats the right speedometer. i can't remember a vette just showing 85.
Sideoftheroad Posted June 13, 2012 Author #7 Posted June 13, 2012 I went out to eBay and found 3 other vettes as the same year. All 3 of them show 85.
warriorhoneybee Posted June 13, 2012 #8 Posted June 13, 2012 i stand corrected, once again. o well I'm use to that by now. i guess thats what i get for thinking i just never saw one until yesterday. lol
BlueVenture87 Posted June 13, 2012 #9 Posted June 13, 2012 Almost all the cars and trucks from that time had 85 mph speedometers. This went with the 55 mph speed limit and was meant to give the driver the illusion of speed. After all 55 mph on a 140 mph speedo face is hardly moving right? -JK
