Funny this just happen at the local boat ramp last Saturday. Someone said they thought

Nothing like fun at the ole Boat Launch.

Do not launch at low tide. There is a boat launch here and we all know not to use it at low tide. One guy decided to. He got stuck, then the guy he called for help got stuck, then the next guy got stuck. Finally they got a guy with a long line who got them all out.

I saw a guy who was smart. He had a trailer hitch on the front bumper as well so he could drive in front first. It was a cement ramp and he launched at low tide. The bottom half of the ramp was covered with seaweed. He hit that and just kept going right up to the window sills.

We were eating lunch next to the Garrison Bight Marina in Key West once and a guy backed his boat down the ramp and it just kept going. The boat kept the trailer up so the guy swims up to the boat releases the straps and takes off to go fishing with his truck and trailer still submerged. When I got off work about 5 hours later they were finally pulling the truck out.

When I worked River Patrol the best place to be was at the boat launch, scenery was awesome and we had some side splitting times watching people. One guy had his trailer strapped on to boat, front and back, and unhooked and was driving his boat attached to the trailer. He complained he could not get the boat to plane. go figure

All time best are when they launch, without the drain plug, and go out for the day. You try to tell them and they interrupt and yell at you because they " know what they are doing". I don't argue as they drive off in their boat. . .:buttkick:

I lived in Alaska and for holidays we would go down to Deep Creek just to watch this very thing happen over and over again. The tide changes can be as much as 33 feet there so when the tide comes in it really comes in. Watched a guy lose a brand new boat, trailer and truck because of it. Stickers were still on everything and temp tags so you knew it was new. Popped the tilt trailer with the stern to the incoming tide. By the time he got back in the truck and tried to drive out from under the boat the water was coming over the stern. This weighted the boat down so much he couldn't drive the trailer out from under it. He finally figured he just needed to dump the trailer and get the truck out but by the time he decided that the water was coming into the bed of the truck and now the truck couldn't get out even without the trailer. Ok so off to get the tractors to come help. By the time they got there the truck was all but submerged. They wouldn't even try to get close much less try to pull it out. All he could do was watch the tide take everything. When the tide went out there was nothing to be seen. It was all gone.

Oh, did I mention that alcohol was involved. When he pulled up and got out empty beer cans poured (and I do mean poured) out of his truck. We started to try to warn him but decided this was a show we didn't want to miss hehehe.

Always wondered how he explained that one to the insurance companies.

:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:Yeah but it is surprising how long a truck will float before it sinks. we have trained our tow drivers to pull them out slowly, just like a swampped boat, or you will be pulling up busted axles. we usually break the windows to help the process.

You can't fix stupid and the government protects those people against themselves by passing laws. . .

 I see things differently here..

I see a whole bunch of good hearted people here willing to help out some one in distress under difficult conditions and risking damaging their own vehicles in the process. Does look funny in the video, but i wouldn't mind living in that town.:clap2:

A good old Alabama boy won a bass boat in a raffle drawing.

He brought it home and his wife looks at him and says,

"What are you gonna do with that. There ain't no water deep enough to float a boat within 100 miles of here."

He says, "I won it and I'm a-gonna keep it."

His brother came over to visit several days later. He sees the wife and asks where his brother is.

She says, "He's out there in his bass boat", pointing to the field behind the house.

The brother heads out behind the house and sees his brother in the middle of a big wheat field, sitting in a bass boat with a fishing rod in his hand.. He yells out to him, "What are you doin'?"

His brother replies, "I'm fishin'. What does it look like I'm a doin'?"

His brother yells, "It's people like you that give people from Alabama

a bad name, makin' everybody think we're stupid. If I could swim, I'd come out there and whip your ass!"

Not quite that bad, but thank God no one had video cameras in every pocket.

I back my boat down the ramp and bump it off the trailer. My wife pulls it over to the dock and I drive up the ramp to park the car and trailer. Now what is that foo woman yelling about? So I stop the car and get out to hear what she is saying.

"You forgot the plug!"

I back down the ramp as quick as I can, wade over to the dock, and grab the bowline. I pull the filling boat over to the trailer and get the winch line on the bow eye. I line it up a bit and start cranking. (not thinking that I don't hear a click, click click of the ratchet on the winch)

The higher the boat comes out and up on the trailer the harder I have to crank. My hand slips, the winch handle spins. The first revolution makes contact with my chin. Had it not been for the car being just close enough I would have fell down as I counted stars.

My vision clears and I click on the winch so it isn't free wheeling and get the boat up on the trailer.

Then, and only then, do I notice the 2 dozen HIGHLY amused spectators on the next dock. I take great amusement in watching boat launch shenanigans.

But I have been there myself.

The funniest I have seen, that wasn't me, was the guy that unhooked his winch line from the boat before backing it down the steep ramp. :lightbulb: Full roller trailer. Yup, first touch of the brakes and it rolled off and hit the ramp. There wasn't a dry eye around. He was the only person that wasn't holding there stomach with tears running down their face.
