Basically liquid fuel over heated until it become vapor, boils up like steam. You lose a good share of the needed combustability due to lack of fluid fuel.

Alcohol based fuels are a major cause of it from my experience.

In hot weather I would not run ethanol gas in it ,plus it also happens more frequently after filling up tank because of the gas being cool from being underground in tanks.I heard a trick but never tried it and it was to put a wooden clothes pin on the fuel line.Don't know if it works or not.

Back in my drag racing days I used a Moroso cool can. Basically a small cooler with a copper fuel line coiled inside, add water and ice to cool the fuel before it reaches the engine.:225:

With hot Arizona temperatures, My KLR650 would overheat the gas tank if I left the tank bag on it. Several times it got so hot that the gad would actually boil in the tank. I had never seen that happen before, but if the vent isn't venting correctly and the gas gets hot enough, it will build pressure and boil. Boiling gas in a tank is really interesting to see.

Also, if your gas is ever boiling...be VERY careful about opening up the gas cap. Mine had so much pressure in it that when I opened it, it "blew" out through the filler neck all over the hot bike. :shock3:

I have never had that problem so far with any other bikes in Arizona.

Some Kids had all the fancy toys!

When were were hitting the drag strip we had a coffee can with a coil of copper tubing inside spliced into the fuel line. Fill the thing up with ice and off we went.

Cheap! yep. And effective.
