alvald83 Posted June 1, 2012 #1 Posted June 1, 2012 My speedo and rpm gauge lenses are hazy and there is a crack in the rpm gauge. Is there a way to replace the clear plastic lenses without replacing the whole gauge unit?
Chaharly Posted June 1, 2012 #2 Posted June 1, 2012 My speedo and rpm gauge lenses are hazy and there is a crack in the rpm gauge. Is there a way to replace the clear plastic lenses without replacing the whole gauge unit? i would assume that effort wise, you'd be better just to replace the whole unit, if you could get ahold of one. If anything, break em out, that'll solve two problems :{P
JohnMidnight Posted June 1, 2012 #3 Posted June 1, 2012 Its a complete thing. You'd save time just getting a complete replacement, or. Knock em out
alvald83 Posted June 1, 2012 Author #4 Posted June 1, 2012 Well, here was my thought. I can have some clear plastic discs made to match the original lenses from the local plastics business. Then, using a side cutting dremel blade, carefully cut the original lens out and adjust the cut out with a half round file. Glue them in with some type of clear glue. I do have a spare unit to practice on.
Dizzle223 Posted June 1, 2012 #5 Posted June 1, 2012 From what I found on line it looks like all the lenses are the same from 83 to 86. I'm sure your method will be less expensive but if you're looking for a stock alternative.... http://m.yamaha-motor.com/PartsViewer.aspx#/Yamaha/XVZ12TK_-_1983/METER/XVZ12TK_(1983_MOTORCYCLE)/METER_(XVZ12TK_-_1983) http://www.powersportsplus.com/parts/detail/yamaha/YP-26H-8353G-00-00.html I have also seen a couple on ebay but I didn't have any luck searching by the Yamaha part #. Hope this helps. Brian
