Flyinfool Posted May 23, 2012 #1 Posted May 23, 2012 My parents have an old J.C. Higgens cooler that was bought in the early 50s. Does anyone know if it has any collector value? What it may be worth? I searched all of Craigs list and ebay but could not find one similar.
Yammer Dan Posted May 23, 2012 #2 Posted May 23, 2012 I have a silver Coleman that looks a lot like that. I just know its OLD!!
Flyinfool Posted May 23, 2012 Author #3 Posted May 23, 2012 I know my dad bought this cooler before he was married in '55. Anything JC Higgens is made by someone else. JC Higgens was a Sears house brand. So it is very possible that it is actually a Colman.
RandyR Posted May 23, 2012 #5 Posted May 23, 2012 If it will keep beer cold, it has value. RR I'll trade you a 6-pack of empties for one full one?
kevin5549 Posted May 24, 2012 #6 Posted May 24, 2012 I found this on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-JC-Higgins-Cooler-/160697122622#ht_500wt_715 160.00 bucks.
Flyinfool Posted May 24, 2012 Author #7 Posted May 24, 2012 I found this on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-JC-Higgins-Cooler-/160697122622#ht_500wt_715 160.00 bucks. I saw that one to. It is not the same model as what we have. I did confirm that it was bought new in '55. If we can not sell it I may just use it on my trailer that will be pulled by a vintage bike. Jeff It has had many hundreds if not thousands of beers kept cold in it over the years. So whats it worth to you? Just from the changes in insulating technology over the years, I would guess that it does not have near the insulation value of something new.
bongobobny Posted May 24, 2012 #8 Posted May 24, 2012 Yes it has some value as a collector piece to the right person but you won't be able to retire or take a vacation on it...
Scooter Bob Posted May 24, 2012 #9 Posted May 24, 2012 Just from the changes in insulating technology over the years, I would guess that it does not have near the insulation value of something new. Just have to drink 'em faster I guess. No big deal.
RedRider Posted May 24, 2012 #11 Posted May 24, 2012 Beer is bad........ Perhaps, but COLD beer is good. RR
