kyle Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 so we went for a ride saturday down to jasper indiana to check out obermyer yamaha and came away impressed. talked to the owner about a valve adjustment this fall and price seemed reasonable to me, evem mentioned a loaner bike since were 130 miles away, won't be a venture but something for the day while they work on the bike. he mentioned a fuel additive yamalube ring free additive, only 1 oz. for every 10 gals so i said why not, just wondering if anyone has tried it and what they thought. just filled tank and added a bit so we'll see. If your in jasper checkout obermyer, yamaha only so they know what there doing.

I haven't tried yamalube ring free additive, but I do use StarTron additive for E10 gas...it has worked on both of my bikes run smoother and the best part my MPG increased by as much as 6mpg...as u know E10 is derived from plants & plants has H2O so startron breaks down the h2o dwn so small that it will burn ( can't think of the term i was looking for)...also when using the product it will stabilize the fuel for up to 2 yrs...I HIGLY recommend it
RSTDdog Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 Ring free is a fuel system cleaner and decarbon product. Its not a fuel stabilizer as such like the startron and stabil products. When I worked at a Yamaha dealer years ago the rep told me that ring free is a highly concentrated version of chevrons Techron fuel additive. If you read the bottle you will see they have a clean up concentration ( 2 oz/gallon) and maintenance concentration (1oz/ 10 gallons). Ring free is very popular among the two stoke yamaha outboard crowd, particularly the OX66 variants (two stroke, fuel injection with an Oyxgen sensor in the exhaust) I like the product, it contains no alchohol. I use it in my outboard periodically. Not sure how susceptible the Royal engines are to carbon build up, I'm thinking if you run quality fuel, keep it tuned and ride often, carbon build up should be minimal for the V4. Its not cheap, 26.00 for a quart IIRC, but treats 320 gallons in maintenance concentration and 16 gallons in clean up . Overall Still cheaper than buying the retail techron product at the auto parts store. RSTDdog
