Bobby G Posted May 21, 2012 #4 Posted May 21, 2012 The wife and I are staying at my sister's house in Fairfax VA, and the rest of our group of 10 bikes is staying at the Holiday Inn Express, also in Fairfax, right down the street from Patriot H-D. We'll stop in Harrisonburg VA on the way north on Wednesday night, and probably in the Roanoke area on Sunday night on the way home. Can't wait to get this show on the road!
TATERS Posted May 21, 2012 #5 Posted May 21, 2012 Hey Rick...sounds good !....let us know the details.
Sylvester Posted May 21, 2012 #6 Posted May 21, 2012 I will be in Springfield, VA with the STAR crowd at the Comfort Inn.
Rickster Posted May 21, 2012 Author #7 Posted May 21, 2012 Not sure what parking lot we will be in yet but I will be looking for other Venture Riders. It will be our first trip to Rolling Thunder.

Rickster, Are you traveling without a rider? If so you may want to look into the VIP escort. This gives you a rider to carry on your bike at the front of the parade. It requires a back rest and other criteria but is not a problem for most bikes. This is a Rolling Thunder sponsored event and you may have a service personell's mother with you on the ride (Gold Star Mother).

Rickster Posted May 26, 2012 Author #12 Posted May 26, 2012 Will do Tom we will see you when we get back.
Rickster Posted May 27, 2012 Author #13 Posted May 27, 2012 Got to the north lot of the Pentagon at 8:00 didn't leave until after 2:00 for the run. I'm not sure how many bikes there were but both the north and south lots were full, the ride started at noon and they were still coming out after 4:00. Saw quite a few Ventures and meet quite a few people, only issue was the heat and man was it hot. Many thanks to the CMA ( christian motorcycle) people providing coffee, water and snacks. Oh and I hope those Harley riders found thier bike all I know is it was black with an American flag on it had a great time honoring our troops and paying our respects to the fallen.
Rickster Posted May 28, 2012 Author #14 Posted May 28, 2012 Reports are around 900,000 supporters at Rolling Thunder
Bobby G Posted May 30, 2012 #16 Posted May 30, 2012 (edited) Didn't see many RSV's, but we had an awesome time in DC. Arrived at the South lot at about 6:10am, and left out at 1pm, just as we had planned. Getting out in the first hour beats getting out at 4pm or later. But it was really warm, and the fire hoses they cranked up were a welcome relief. I was soaked to the skin, but was totally dry by the time we took off. So many volunteers to help with water, coffee and essentials! It was a great showing of patriotism and honor for those who protect and defend our freedom, and for the families of those still listed as MIA. The only military flyover this year was Marine One, with BO clearly not aboard (I was told he was in Ohio on Sunday campaigning). Many one finger salutes were evident. Too bad folks can't refrain from doing that, given that it's our Marines doing the flying. Wish they'd leave their politics home on a day like we had on Sunday. Here are some pics I was able to snap. Guest Slab_Ryder Posted May 30, 2012 #17 Posted May 30, 2012 Was there with my RSV and 2 others from Nova Scotia, Canada. Any idea of the total number of bikes??
Rickster Posted May 30, 2012 Author #18 Posted May 30, 2012 I heard reports of 900,000 but that was hard to believe although the lots were packed full. As for Marine One I would have to agree BO was not on board by the way it banked when it flew over, the Coast Guard did a fly over as well. The Sheriff's did put on a show with their scoots every now and then when they had to do a turn it was interesting to watch. All those bikers coming together for the cause was something to see no trouble, no one cared what you rode and yes the FD was a welcome relief with the 2 trucks they had in the North Lot. As for the one finger wavers and head shakers shame on them, we owe our veterans and the fallen a ton of repect for what they have done and for what we have in the USA. Looking forward to Rolling Thunder 26 next year maybe we can go as a group from VR.org. :900[1]:
Sylvester Posted May 30, 2012 #19 Posted May 30, 2012 Found this photo on the web. Anyone we know? Looks like Ray Pittman aka LA Ray. The picture is of a VIP Escort and he was with the escorts like me. He is a STAR member and a friend.
Bobby G Posted May 30, 2012 #20 Posted May 30, 2012 Was there with my RSV and 2 others from Nova Scotia, Canada. Any idea of the total number of bikes?? I also heard the Pentagon Police estimated about 900,000 bikes. But that means that in the 6 1/2 hours, or 390 minutes, it took to empty the Pentagon lots, you'd have to have about 2,700 bikes leaving each minute. Somehow that math doesn't add up to me. But no matter...it was a great experience and a great ride.
