casiper Posted May 20, 2012 #1 Posted May 20, 2012 Gentl. This morning the bike had no problem cruising, after I got out of work and started to head home, the bike's rpm neddle started to go down and the bike stalled. After I came to a stop, I got it on nutral and pushed the kill swith, less than 10 seconds later I attempted to start it again and off we go with no problems. a few miles later the same thing. Like I'm loosing electrical power in my opinion. I know for a fact that the battery terminals are tight and I didn't notice anything weird with the battery meter. Any clues where to start troubleshooting? Thank you guys!
Wanderer Posted May 20, 2012 #2 Posted May 20, 2012 Clogged fuel filter? Maybe fuel pump is going, or bad ground some where?
Flyinfool Posted May 20, 2012 #3 Posted May 20, 2012 Plugged gas tank vent? Small critters have been known to make a home in the ends of the various vent tubes.
twigg Posted May 21, 2012 #5 Posted May 21, 2012 As the others have said, it does indicate a fuel, rather than an electrical problem. I'd start there.
Yammer Dan Posted May 21, 2012 #6 Posted May 21, 2012 As Jeff said check those vent lines hanging under the bike once in a while to make sure Mud Daubers haven't plugged them. This will cause all kinds of strange things to happen.
reddevilmedic Posted May 21, 2012 #7 Posted May 21, 2012 i agree also. check vent tubes, all connections related to fuel. also check the stator and r/r connections on left side. if it is fuel pump, an inexpensive replacement is the Mr Gasket 42S.
GaryZ Posted May 21, 2012 #8 Posted May 21, 2012 When it dies, open the gas cap. If it sounds like air escaping when you open it, the tank is not venting properly (as mentioned by others) and you are literally running out of gas. It's sort of like a gas can that needs a vent opened before it will pour.
JohnMidnight Posted May 21, 2012 #9 Posted May 21, 2012 Was the rpm needle wavering? Like she was fighting the stall? I had the same problem, and it turns out it was the tci. Sent from my BlackBerry 9810 using Tapatalk
easternrider Posted May 21, 2012 #10 Posted May 21, 2012 I may have had a similar problem, but mine did not stall, at least not every time. I had a loss of power, backfiring... It ended up being the pick-up coil
casiper Posted May 22, 2012 Author #11 Posted May 22, 2012 Now that I remember, It did back fired like a few times but not every time I had to pull over. The rmp needle did went down and back up several times before forced to pull over. I will check all that has been mentioned. Thank you!

If not go to clean pick-up coils. Then pull and bake TCI. Then the replacing starts.
920shrek1 Posted May 22, 2012 #13 Posted May 22, 2012 Im having the same issue with mine at this time a buddy gave me a spare fuel pump to try and its working good now. i opened that black cap on the fuel pump and found the points are bad now im looking to see if i can just replace the points.
