Well I am guessin' many of you out there are like myself, stuck indoors through the winter waiting till spring. I enjoy reading about other peoples motorcycle journeys. The best magazines I have found so far are "road runner" and "rider" magazines. WHAT MAGAZINES DO YOU READ/RECOMEND..??:cold::cold::cold:

I get Road Runner as I won it as a door prize at Vogal. I also get a couple of others like Motorcyclist. I really love Road Runner because it is not so much about a specific road test, but it is about the journey and the quality of the magazine is superb.

My problem with most of the other bike magazines is it seems about 90% of the stuff in them is about crotch rockets. Occasionally, there may be something else that I enjoy.

Shop manuals and aftermarket supply house mags are my wintertime mainstay.. I am backwards of most folks cause I am REAL busy building all winter long... Although I must say,, this winter has been a lot different then the last 25 or so,, due to Michigans Recession my wife and I are house hunting... Boredom isnt even in the Cowpuc trailbook... Tell you all one thing - its a WONDERFUL time to invest in property - we havent seen these kind of prices since Jimmie Carter almost destroyed us!!!!!

I subscribe to RoadRunner (love their Shamrock Tours portion for ride ideas), and two canadian mags - Motorcycle Mojo and Canadian Biker

Long time "Cycle World" reader. Last year I decided to add "Motorcyclist" to my list, but when the subscriptions on both run out I plan not to renew. I've noticed (like a previous poster noted) that over the years it has steadily shifted toward heavily favoring sport bikes above all else. And they seem to have developed a fixation on Ducati to the point that it is regarded as almost holy. It's got to the point that when I get it in the mail I just thumb through it to see if there is anything non-sport bike related I may be interested in. If not......straight to the trash. Problem with Motorcyclist is that if you read this month's Cycle World, then you've read Motorcyclist. Same features, same road tests, same bikes, same gear, same everything. They must all sit together in the same cubicles. So....maybe I'll give Roadrunner a try. There was another one that looked interesting, but I can't think of the name of it right now.

Well it may be of no interest to alot of you,but my favorite is Ride Texas Magazins. Not only do they do writeups about Texas but neighboring states and best,or top 10 roads in Texas every year. They have a vote by all the subscribers and others. Here is the Link if interested. http://www.ridetexas.com/ Enjoy it,but be forewarmed they do not do Motorcycle comparisons or Test Rides as they say not many are willing to loan a bike out to a smaller magazine. I receive Hot Rod, Piano Technician's Journal (a trade magazine for piano tuners), and AudioXPress, which is a culmination of what Audio Amateur, Glass Audio, and Speaker Builder used to be. It's for those who like to build their own audio equipment, or at least modify commercial pieces. I'm in the middle of building a vacuum tube preamp and amplifier. My current system is a Fisher 400 vacuum tube stereo that must be over 40 years old now, run through my own transmission line speakers. Oh, did you mean motorcycle magazines? None I've seen interest me. Too many other interests.

I travel a lot so I get quite a few to kill time while waiting on runways etc.:

Motorcycle Cruiser (Cruisers, domestic and metric)

Road Runner (Touring)

Road Bike (All Metric Street bikes)

Motorcycle Classics (classics and restoration tips, domestic, Euro and Metric - fun to go down memory lane)

Rider (Covers a lot of ground but not too deep on anything)

The AMA Magazine that you get with a membership

Sometimes I pick up a Cycle World or Motorcyclist if they cover a bike or event that hits home.

I also peruse catalogs from places including:

Whitehorse

J&P

JC Whitney

Jirehcycles

and a few others.

Compiled a longer list including some on-line stuff a while back which you can find here:

I have noticed the same thing about Cycle World, an issue doesnt go by, that doesnt have an article in it about, this Duc or that Duc, new or old..........Getiing tired of reading about them and crotch rockets, I will keep it though as it is the only one I get, and I love the articles by Peter Eagan........he is one great rider and very witty and astute when it comes to bikes........

.. And they seem to have developed a fixation on Ducati to the point that it is regarded as almost holy. ..

I subscribe to Motorcycle Consumer News. I've read it since it was Road Rider. It's plain, but it's always packed full of solid information. They review a little bit of everything. It has great safety and health articles. It has no ads.

I also get American Motorcyclist and MRF Reports.

Every off season I re-read Proficient Motorcycling by David Hough. This is an absolute must read for all motorcyclists.

'Rider' and 'Motorcycle Cruiser'. The odd copy of 'Roadrunner' and 'Roadbike'. Just bought a copy of 'Baggers'....pretty good. I really miss Jamie Elvidge from Motorcycle Cruiser:crying:. Only because she was HOT......I don't care if she eats crackers!!;):rotf:

I agree with about Jamie, miss her alot in the MC rag, I did enjoy her editorial column too, always made me laugh. I have picked up a couple copies of Bagger also, not bad, they do casually discuss metrics. My favorite is still Motorcycle Cruiser, great tech section, Mark Zimmerman is very knowledgeable. Second on my list is Road Bike, they don't bow down to the HD alter.:no-no-no:

So which magazine is closest to the demographics of a Venture rider?

Roadrunner?

I picked up the issue of baggers as well and it was ok. Kinda geared towards customs but was fun to read.

I have gotten a couple of different publications over the years and the one thing I notice and dislike is the amount of articles about crotch rockets and dirt bikes. I want a publication about cruisers and touring bikes. Anyone got an idea?:detective:
