Ever have this happen

Co-worker had his harley parked in the company lot and the way the sun was reflecting off the mirror it burned the passenger backrest. Looks like a cigarette was laid on it and burned down to the butt. I know, should have gotten a pic but I didn't have phone on me at the time. First time I ever heard of this.

Was a 1st Gen parked nearby ? I have heard that when that happens, the Harley can get real depressed and attempt self immolation out of jealousy and depression.

The mirror would not cause that. MC mirrors are convex, that means that light hitting them will be spread out not concentrated to cause a burn.

It may have been some piece of chrome or even the back of the windshield. or possibly something on the building.

I would go back to the same spot today and try to find the cause, so you can prevent it from happening again.

Maybe it was a cigarette? Maybe someone was careless or someone isn't friendly toward your coworker?

Very sure it was the mirror, because when he put a towel over the mirror the smolthering stopped. It is an after market mirror, looks perfectly flat, maltese cross type. If I didn't see it myself I wouldn't think it was possible either.
