BMW Posted January 15, 2008 #26 Posted January 15, 2008 Alan, I took my wheels into Highlands Yamaha and they put the new Avon's on while I waited. I also had them put a 90 degree valve stem on the front wheel for $10.00 The cost was $30.00 a wheel mounted and balanced. Highlands is located in Countryside.Greased spline's on drive shaft also, changed oil in final drive too. If you need a hand when you do yours call me. Bill.....
dharnie Posted January 15, 2008 #27 Posted January 15, 2008 Honda dlr wants $220 for set OEM Dunlops installed on/off VT1100 Sabre - and can wait & drive it home. Yamaha dlr is running a "special" $5/wheel bal + $100 labor (because they drop the bags, + cost of whatever tires one wants!! Plan on spending 1/2 day with him - if he can get to it right away! I have been riding on & off over 40 years and thank God have had only 1 flat on the rear tube-type tire in a 650 BSA traveling about 65 mph. I was very surprised how controllable the situation was! I did not panic and simply coasted the bike to a stop onto the paved shoulder. I was even able to drive it slowly from an off ramp onto a side road. Found a small shop owner who patched it for $15! (Of course that was back in the 70s!)
pegscraper Posted January 16, 2008 #28 Posted January 16, 2008 Al, do you use stick on type weights, or something else? Where do you get them?
wkboard Posted January 31, 2008 Author #29 Posted January 31, 2008 Hi all, I got my new Avon Venom's from southwestmoto. (What a nice guy to work with!) I found a dealer close to me - Schaumburg Honda/Suzuki. He charged $20 each to mount and computer balance. (with all of the rotors on) Did a nice job, same day service. I replaced the front stem with a 90 degree and had both stems pointed to the right side at a 45 degree angle. should be easier to check wit it on the side stand. ALL of the Yamaha dealers that I checked wanted between $40 and $75 each to do the same thing. (Includeing Chicago Cycle - 72.50 each) I read many posts - here and on Venturerider tech, and learned Oh so much from all of you people's knowledge! Thanks to you all. Good stuff! I also am greaseing everything up - includeing the pins- but could not find Royal Purple grease anywhere. I am useing a new valvoline synthetic moly wheel bearing grease. Good consistency - looks like it should work well. I have many other projects going and the bike looks like a skeleton. 59.99 Harbor freight jack/lift is working well.
