Freebird Posted January 9, 2008 #1 Posted January 9, 2008 Here are some pictures from Cougar of the new Polk speakers that he installed on the rear of his RSV. He confirms that they will fit but that you have to remove the black ring that came on the stock speakers.
BuddyRich Posted January 9, 2008 #2 Posted January 9, 2008 Alright. What was the ring for ? Reinforcement or spacing ? Anybody know?
Freebird Posted January 9, 2008 Author #3 Posted January 9, 2008 I also posted this in the tech library but decided to copy it here since BuddyRich posted a question to it...OBVIOUSLY not realizing that as a moderator...he can post there but nobody can answer him.
Freebird Posted January 9, 2008 Author #5 Posted January 9, 2008 Heck Buddy...you CAN post and get responses HERE. That's why I copied it to here.
BuddyRich Posted January 9, 2008 #6 Posted January 9, 2008 :rotf: JET LAG.. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.
Eck Posted January 9, 2008 #7 Posted January 9, 2008 Alright. What was the ring for ? Reinforcement or spacing ? Anybody know? Buddy, it appears to me that it is a "snap on ring" which contains a protective screen to help avoid contaminates from getting into the speaker cavity causing a "rattle" ..being a screen, it lets sound out but stops contaminates from entry. But hey, it's only MY opinon....
Brake Pad Posted January 9, 2008 #8 Posted January 9, 2008 cant you, cut the screen out of the ring, ?????? and lay it back in place. Is it plastic /or light metal screen? Plastic, you wont here, but metal vibrates...........
Cougar Posted January 9, 2008 #9 Posted January 9, 2008 The ring has the fiber mesh screen in it. maybe to help protect some water getting in the stock speakers. And maybe to cover up the look of the cone. it does nothing else but be in the way of a better speaker . I like the looks of the front of the polks anyways! Jeff
Cougar Posted January 9, 2008 #10 Posted January 9, 2008 The ring must be removed for the depth of the Polk Speaker.
ard103 Posted January 9, 2008 #11 Posted January 9, 2008 Sooo...... How do they sound? I end up with the volume at about 20-23 when out on the road with the stock speakers. Do they give more volume at a lower setting and/or just sound better? Thanks,,
Cougar Posted January 9, 2008 #12 Posted January 9, 2008 First of all I have not finished my write-up for the rear install. Another thing I want you folks to know is that I have done the Installing a 250 watt Amp (in the tech section) then I went to pioneers. Then I added Bass Blockers. Then I Switched over to Polk Speakers (better then pioneers and stock) And now I am in the MIT's of adding the Baffles to the rear of all four speakers.. So the Sound that BLOWS out of my speakers now is Satisfying to me..! But I can say the SPEAKERS are better then the Stock OEM is a Much Better Improvement. I can not say how all this sounds with just a stock set-up. I have done this http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=487 and this so far http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11152 Good Luck On whatever you decide my friend. Jeff
ard103 Posted January 17, 2008 #13 Posted January 17, 2008 Hey Cougar. Thanks for the input on the speakers. I recieved the new Polks and the baffles yesterday and the bass blockers today. Looks like a garage day or two in the next week installing the speakers, tach, new plugs, stebel horn..... Have Fun
Cougar Posted January 17, 2008 #14 Posted January 17, 2008 Your Very Welcome. I hope you enjoy your new sound. Let us know what you think about the switch-over. Jeff
