I HAVE BRAKES!!!!:cool10: Switched out master, brakes in 20 minutes! NOW i have a small problem...should be simple...on the old (83) brake switch has 2 wires, brown and green.....the new brake switch (85) has 4 wires, brown, green, yellow black....what should i do???? thanks.

Brown to brown and green to green. I believe the yellow black are for cruise control interupt....

Just swap the switches out. There is a hole in underside of master that a tab on the switch locks into. Take a small screwdriver and push up tab and switch should slide out.

KIC! 20 hours bleeding these damn brakes! seriously.....the wires please......

Sorry about the clowning...not familiar with the wires. I have been following this thread since I am having a similar issue with my 87 front/rear brakes.

Sounds like you are getting the info from the "smarter than I" ones.

Yup, as Dingy says, just swap the switches! Take a small screwdriver and push it into the hole to push the tab down and pull it off!

I'm betting there is a nasty score on the bore of the cylinder. That's the only way that you wouldn't pass fluid. Either that or the cup has a nasty tear on it...

The 4 wire has a set of normally open contacts for the brake lights and a set of normally closed contacts for the cruise control so that when you hit the brakes it disconnects the cruise.

they dont look the same at all. besides, i tried to get the old one off, it was so brittle it just fell apart. so, what can i do now....the 2 wire switch is the one that fell apart. i tried just connecting the 2 wires on the new one, and leave the other 2 wires unhooked...and i get no brakelight.

If you cross the brown to the green from the bike do you get a brake light?? If yes then it's the switch in the master. Drag out your ohms meter and see if you get continuity between the brown/green from the switch with the lever pulled. If it's yes then you have a conection problem and need to redo it. If it's no then you probably have a dirty switch?? Just for the heck of it see if you can find any two wires that have continuity between any color with the lever pulled back. If you can find a pair use them....

ok...so, after looking at schems from 83 and 85, i found that the "free" wires are different on the switches. the new 4 wire set-up went...brown to brown, and green to YELLOW. that solved the issue and i have brakelights. getting ready to ride now, and test out the new brakes! :cool10:
