If this law was on the books back in 72 around here, I would have never been able to buy my 72 Kawasaki 750. Consequently never having the memories of riding wheelies and generally raising hell back in the day. Thank heaven for small miracles. The worlds full of self-imposing people who write laws for the greater good. BS.:225::D

I think it is really funny that you had no problem "riding wheelies and raising hell" but some insurance law would have kept you from riding. Why not ride without insurance if you were such an outlaw? :rotf:

Sorry Twigg. What I meant was that at speeds of 300 kph a helmet not make much difference when you hit a rock face. Full body armor and prayer won't help. Only the experience to avoid the event , which takes time to gain, would help.

Agree with you and Rick, all the sport bikers I know do have full face lids but at excessive speed and rock walls nothing helps not even a bit. We had a fellow stunting for a photo shoot who was asked by the photographer to slow down so he could take the pictures. In front of his wife, business partner and the photographer he hit a rock face and was killed. No gear protects from........ As much as I do not like the beanie helmets I would wager most of the riders killed wearing them would not have survived the same crash with a full face lid. SUV broad side is usually not survivable.

When I started riding I had a full face helmet. After a few years I got a very fast bike. The adrenalin rush was addictive. I would have it pegged every chance I got. Then I got an open face helmet. I scared myself. I now realized how fast I was going and slowed down. With the full face I felt invincible. With the open face I felt exposed and more vulnerable. Now I have a police style helmet and am content to cruise, mostly. I believe the full face gives the best protection but it also isolates you from what is happening. To each his own.

Yes, GaryZ, sadly, people do need to be protected from themselves.

Now, if attitudes were to change, and we could guarantee that idiots would only harm themselves and not others, we could abandon all these laws and strengthen the gene pool by allowing individual idiots the right to kill themselves.

In general terms, government needs to protect the people. However, this helmet conversation is one where the effective protection does not warrant the laws put in place. Some believe that 'even if one life is saved. it's worth it'. I am not one of those folks. For me, the protection must be worth the cost.

The 'idiots' riding with beanie helmets are not going to harm fewer 'others' by wearing larger helmets. The protection difference between the beanie and the larger helmet is dubious at best. This appears to be another law put in place for politics rather than a real world need.

If you are one that believes 'even if one life is saved. it's worth it', I can respect that. Please be equally respectful of my belief.

I am in total agreement with the highlited sentence.

There is no keeping up with you Rick. Personally I think it is Nina wielding that riding crop that makes you go so fast.

Just got today's Victoria Times Colonist. I see they printed my letter.

Kerry ... I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't publicize such things about my and Nina's "kinky, dark side" :whistling: :rotfl:

Saw your letter ... doubt they'd print mine :smile5:

I tried to be gentle with them. I am going on the local radio sometime next week to discuss motorcycle safety and awareness.
