Steve-O Posted April 30, 2012 #1 Posted April 30, 2012 Just rode the RSTD 540 miles this weekend. My butt is killing me. What seats are you guys comfortable riding for long distances on? I have a 2006 RSTD (new to me).
Steve-O Posted April 30, 2012 Author #3 Posted April 30, 2012 I have one on my liner that is very comfortable. Good to hear they are the same for the RSTD. What other seats?
bluerstd08 Posted April 30, 2012 #4 Posted April 30, 2012 I picked up mine real cheap from a buddy that wrecked his RSTD. Just had them re-upholstered.
jemorrisonjr Posted April 30, 2012 #5 Posted April 30, 2012 I put Venture Pillow tops on my TD.... SWEET!!!!!!!!!
Solodadof2 Posted April 30, 2012 #6 Posted April 30, 2012 Ultimates are awesome for Rider i have had complaints on my passenger seat.
Steve-O Posted April 30, 2012 Author #7 Posted April 30, 2012 I put Venture Pillow tops on my TD.... SWEET!!!!!!!!! This takes a few mods to the seat, right?
aharbi Posted April 30, 2012 #8 Posted April 30, 2012 Seats are a personal thing. Ask 100 different butts and get 100 different answers. Get a custom seat maker that will work (rework) with you till it's right for your butt. I like Russell Daylongs myself.
jemorrisonjr Posted April 30, 2012 #9 Posted April 30, 2012 This takes a few mods to the seat, right? Just two... The back seat bracket that you can get from Pinwall cycle and the front seat brackets that I sell
TDunc Posted May 1, 2012 #10 Posted May 1, 2012 I had mustang seat with backrest on mine.... loved it. adjustable and all.
BG Hawks Posted May 1, 2012 #11 Posted May 1, 2012 Before spending the cash contact Rick Butler. He did an awesome job on my seat.
Stache Posted May 1, 2012 #12 Posted May 1, 2012 Ultimate seats, front , rear, driver backrest, wide sissy bar bad, and passenger armrests. Completely changed the experience. Before on long runs I had to walk around, stretch, convince myself to go again after every gas stop. Now I gas and go, tank after tank. Wife likes it too, more importantly.
t_hole Posted May 1, 2012 #13 Posted May 1, 2012 If you're budget conscious I'd definitely give the butler mod a try first. If not afraid to spend some $$ then Ultimate or Russell Day-Long seats are a popular option. The Russell seats may offer you a more customized fit than the Ultimate as they take into account your measurements and riding position when constructing your seat.
RSTDdog Posted May 2, 2012 #14 Posted May 2, 2012 I have the Venture Pillow tops. Mine are stock, but I may Rick Butler do his majic on them. So far they have been good. Here is whats involved in making the venture rear pillion work. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=60469 The front seat needs L brackets either fabricated or purchase. That being said I have done some 300 mile days but not any 500 mile days. Keep in mind, no matter what seat you have, your butt will have to get used to doing extended trips. My first long distance trip was with the Stock RSTD seat. My butt was sore in the beginning, but was less sore several days in after getting used to it. If you are going to ride long distances alot, the Ultimate or Daylong may be worth the investment to you. The Butler mod is very popular as mentioned but I don't have personal experience with it. Dave77459 Posted May 7, 2012 #16 Posted May 7, 2012 The Rick Butler mod worked for me. Several 1000+ mile days. But now, 60,000 miles on, the foam is getting tired. I am making do with a Wally World "gel" seat cushion, alternating each tankful with the bare seat. Sometimes I'll sit on the pillion occasionally at the end of a long day to let the foam "reinflate".
