Formerfuzz Posted April 17, 2012 #1 Posted April 17, 2012 I was looking at my rear axle where is comes through on the right side, and was alarmed that it didn't look right. Is it supposed to be flush? You experts look at the picture and tell me.
Scooter Bob Posted April 17, 2012 #2 Posted April 17, 2012 Is the rest of the head of the axle bolt supported all the way through the swingarm?? Mine has about that much axle head showing between the swingarm and the caliper bracket spacer as well, but the outside is supported all the way through the swingarm. If the head is all the way theough the swingarm, I'd suspect all is well and normal.
Formerfuzz Posted April 17, 2012 Author #3 Posted April 17, 2012 Bob, it isn't. The axle is only inside the swing arm about half way.
Condor Posted April 17, 2012 #4 Posted April 17, 2012 I was looking at my rear axle where is comes through on the right side, and was alarmed that it didn't look right. Is it supposed to be flush? You experts look at the picture and tell me. Almost looked like there was a spacer missing. Attached are a couple I just shot of my 99RSV.

GeorgeS Posted April 18, 2012 #6 Posted April 18, 2012 Do you have the--- Washer, ----Installed?? Goes between the Head of the Axe, and the brake hub. See: Page, 6-6 of service manual .
playboy Posted April 18, 2012 #7 Posted April 18, 2012 Just curious have you had a tire replaced or the rear wheel off for any reason if so was the proper alignment procedure done when it was reinstalled. Your not looking at the recess in the axle thinking that's the end of it are you.
GeorgeS Posted April 18, 2012 #8 Posted April 18, 2012 Did you do the installation, or did you have sombody else do it ?? From the photo, I cannot identify, if the washer, is actually installed. Lots of folks, have had trouble with the Washer,
Formerfuzz Posted April 18, 2012 Author #9 Posted April 18, 2012 I changed the tire last summer. Ill need to look at it tomorrow and see if I placed the washer on the inside. I looked at some related posts and it looks like the washer is between the wheel and swing arm.
Formerfuzz Posted April 18, 2012 Author #10 Posted April 18, 2012 I looked. Its on the correct side. Guess it is okay. Thanks for the help.
Kregerdoodle Posted April 18, 2012 #11 Posted April 18, 2012 Also, if the big washer that fits in the wheel fell out when you changed the tire, the axel will just keep going, but I would think you would notice that pretty fast. If you still have doubts, pull it back off, or at least the bags and muffler so you can get a good look at it and make sure all is good!! better to be safe. I looked. Its on the correct side. Guess it is okay. Thanks for the help.
