Fuel petcock pointing position

Would someone please tell me which end is pointing? Is it the long slender end, or the short-stubby end that is the "pointing" end?

The long slender end is the pointer. Slender end down is fuel on, up is reserve.

I run mine pointing up, on Reserve, But I always gas up at two bars, but sometimes i get to F line:mo money:

Mine is old but still has the arrow that is actually part of the metal, if you look closely you will see it pointing toward the long end or the ON position. There is also a slope or slanted end that in the picture is toward the RES, this is the back. Hope this helps!

They don't look like that anymore. Now the lever is chromed and without any mark.

 

I don't remember my 97 RSTD having a petcock lever like that, but I bet it did.
