Canadian geese' date=' eh... :stickinouttounge:[/quote']

We have them all over our parks now. I read a little about them once and their gatherings here. Seems they flew south from Canada and just stayed. You do not want to get to close on their nest or little chicks in a boat either, they will come get you.

We have seasons on them now around our parks. Trying to reduce the numbers some. A very protective bird and probably why they survive so well and grow in numbers pretty quickly. They adapted very well. The only problem I have ever saw from them is all the crapping they do on all the side walks and boat ramps. But kinda nice to have them though.

I remember very well the first time I ever heard a flock of Geese flying over. It was dark and I was by myself and possum hunting with my Papaw's dog Old Red. I could not see them, but heard them very well. We used to run into the house and get Mom and Dad when we could hear the Geese coming and try our best to see them. This was 36 years ago. I was 12 years old.Now a days it is no biggy to see or hear them even at my house here out in the booneys and no big bodies of water for at least 20 mile or so.

So Canadian geese have taken up the Hillbilly ways. I think they like the Hillbilly way of life, shucks they don't even fly South or North anymore. :confused24::whistling::rasberry:

same thing happened to me a few years back.

I was attending a business meeting at a yacht club and, as I was early, I decided to walk around the boardwalk/docks. There was a 5' hedge on one side, about a 4' boardwalk then water.

I turned a corner and almost stepped on a goose on her nest!

The Gander (male goose) went crazy on me!!

He flew up in my face trying to peck me. He did manage to get a bite my suit or tie several times.

It was hand to beak combat in close quarters...I had to watch my step if I didn't want to go swimming!

Well I backed up in a hurry, all the while trying to just push against the birds chest to keep him off me. I didn't want to hurt him...he was just protecting his future family!

It seemed it had at least a 5' wingspan :whistling:although I was a little to busy to measure at the time.

Once I got to a safe distance, I realized that I had dropped my cell phone in the fracus .

So, once again with steely determination, I bravely advanced into enemy territory

I was searching the ground for my cell phone, all the while fending of the attack of the frantic Dad to be.

There it was! just a few feet away from the nest!

It was close enough that mother goose decided she had to help Dad out and joined the fray. (This is no fairy tale!)

Mind you....It was hard to look very effectively while I was warding off the attacks of a pair of killer guard geese!

The phone was laying there...., and the battery case cover, so I scooped them up and beat a hasty retreat out of there!

Once at a safe distance (had to be further than the first time) I went to put the battery cover on the phone and discovered there was NO BATTERY:crying::bang head:

I decided I had caused enough upset to the family (Is it possible to cause eggs to have a miscarrage?) and decided it really was time to buy a new battery anyway.

Besides, I had to go change my underware !

You can always tell a canadian goose by their call. HONK-A

Howard.... in order to qualify to take shots at us Canucks, you need to pay your $12 membership fee .... besides, you'll get a lot more enjoyment out of it than just that ... :stickpoke: :big-grin-emoticon:

Just joined, and you all seem really nice, so I'm gonna jump right in.

That video was pretty hilarious. I saw one on dailymail.co.uk where students laid a document bag near a hidden nest along a sidewalk, then filmed from a 2nd story window as a guy saw it, walked over to pick it up and was attacked. He fought it for like 3 minutes- it was a riot. :rotf:

Those things are just plain mean. My Dad always had about a dozen animals around when I was growing up. He drug in a Canadian goose from somewhere. It was my job to grease and change the oil in his dump truck every weekend. It was a rare week that the goose wouldn't sneak up on me while I was under the truck and attack.

Yup it seems them dang geese are not affraid of anything. When it comes to there babies and mother on the nest they can get pretty angry.

They are a PITA I live on the river and they forgot to read the book on migration, so our locals tear everything up, if you plant grass they pull it out including the root and absolute make your yard unpassable. Funny thing is they won't cross a string placed about 6-8 inches above the ground. We have greenheads that had a nest and the canada's broke the eggs, first time I had seen that.

They make a mess too. I wish they would be open to hunt year round.
