Stanman Posted April 8, 2012 #1 Posted April 8, 2012 My clutch cover has a crack that a previous owner attempted to repair with some sort of epoxy(?). The repair has now let go and the cover leaks.. I don't know of any method of permanent repair on this material, so I'm wondering if anyone has a cover they are wiling to sell. Or do I have to go to fleabay? This is the 1300 cc engine. PM me if you have one you would like to sell.
friesman Posted April 8, 2012 #2 Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) Hi If you clean it up real well and get all the oil outta the crack, I would think JB weld would hold a long time, or at least until you can get a new cover. They are different overall width due to clutch spring differences. Gary
Scooter Bob Posted April 8, 2012 #5 Posted April 8, 2012 StanMan, please see this thread on how to post your bike model next to your name, so we all know what you're looking for parts for. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=58880 Dingy, I can't believe you let him slide on that one. Later, Scooter Bob

I tried repairing it last summer, but the crack is in the lower back corner. I found it very difficult to clean and put in the JB weld.. I don't think I got it clean enough because it only held for about a week.

DragonRider Posted April 8, 2012 #12 Posted April 8, 2012 I cant get to it today, I will dig it out after work tomorrow. You can have it for a donation to St. Jude. Like I said it was donated to me and I don't need it since mine is an 83, I am just using the tranny from it. I plan on auctioning off the leftovers for St. Jude. Sure I wouldn't mind seeing a picture. What do you want for it?
Condor Posted April 8, 2012 #13 Posted April 8, 2012 The only way to properly fix that side cover is replace it. Weld it and it'll most likely warp and leak. Patch it and eventually the patch will let loose. Clutch covers turn up on Ebay throughout the riding season, and don't bring a whole lot of money because there isn't a big demand for them.... Just be patient... I'd patch for now and plan on doing the replacement ASAP....
Stanman Posted April 8, 2012 Author #14 Posted April 8, 2012 (edited) You can have it welded if you have somebody with the proper equipment near by. Bill The other trick to that is they have to know how to use it. I've seen where a person claimed to know how to weld aluminum and it was some of the worst bird-s**t welding I had seen. I think I'll replace the cover. Edited April 8, 2012 by Stanman spelling error

Once I seen so many air bubbles in a weld that it leaked oil right through it. And as Condor stated, replacing would be the best choice.
