MikeWa Posted April 8, 2012 #1 Posted April 8, 2012 My 2008 Venture does not have that many miles on it but I have had clutch (engine) flair a couple of times now. Riding today confirmed it. When I first got this bike I spent a huge amount of time in parking lots making low speed turns etc. etc. Which means I did an inordinate amount of clutch slipping. I have installed the lower geared V-Max rear end. Which while that doesn't hurt the clutch in itself did change the way I ride. That might, just might mind you be a little harder on the clutch. I know it is harder on my breathing. I have also had the bike run on the dyno a couple of times. So I am not surprised I am getting a little slip (flair) here and there. Since I am planning a trip later this year I think clutch changing time has slipped up on me. So what do I need? It the Skydoc mod the best way to go? any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks Mike
Guest Posted April 8, 2012 #2 Posted April 8, 2012 There is nothing wrong with Sky Docs mod (PCW) but I personally have installed the Barnett conversion in my 99. Its a bit more pricey but it changes the clutch from a diaphragm plate system to a pressure plate system for a true modification. Been in my 99 since 2004 with no issues.

Its a bit more pricey but it changes the clutch from a diaphragm plate system to a pressure plate system for a true modification. Been in my 99 since 2004 with no issues.

midnightventure Posted April 8, 2012 #10 Posted April 8, 2012 I put in the PCW spring alone several years ago and was happy with it. With about 90,000 miles I replaced the fiber disks and changed the half disk for a full one. Now it doesn't have as large an area of slippage which makes it a little harder to precisely control but I have gotten used to it. If I ever have to change them again I will probably go back to original with the PCW spring.
