I have been taking Hyperbaric therapy for the last 2 months for an ulcer on the bottom of my foot that I've had for over a year now, caused by stepping on a screw and not knowing it until I saw the screw in the bottom of my shoe. It is getting smaller finally but still has a ways to go. A few years before that, I stepped on a thumbtack in my bare feet and didn't know it until I saw it sticking in the bottom of my foot. Periferal Neuropathy, one of the effects of the disease, is nothing to take lightly. I now make it a point to inspect my feet daily and pay attention to any kind of sensation in my feet...

I'm in total agreement M as this is probably how it is with alot of disease's. For the pass 20 or 25 years, they've been saying that a cure is just 5 to 10 years away.................."WHAT CURE". This is a sore subject, because their playing with people's lives. All they do is find just enough of a cure to keep hitting you right where it hurts, your wallet; in this case (your purse). So just for my :2cents: worth, we're all getting it right in the shorts :whistling:.

are you just now figuring this out????????

hell , Jerry Lewis, has been bleeding the public dry , for 30 years, and they haven't even come close to a "cure" , for muscular dystrophy!

they don't WANT a cure, for ANY disease.

they make 10,000 times more money , by treating the symptoms, than they would if they cured you.

this has been a thorn in my side, for a lot of years.

glad i finally got a chance to have my say.

p.s. i don't expect anyone to agree, but then, i'm always "out in left field", anyhow.

Well, Most of you know that theres the 2 types of diabetes. Type I is your insulin dependent, meaning that they need to give themselves shots or are on a pump. Type II is your most common type in which you take a combination of oral medications, diet and exercise. Type II can be controlled mostly by your diet and the exercise .Most common cause is being over weight and your body can't produce enough insulin to keep up with the sugars in the blood stream.

Eating a lot of starches /carbs. is the biggest problem since they produce sugar after they are eaten. (but they are Sooooooooooo.... good.)There is no easy answer to this disease because it affect so many other body systems. As far as a cure well since only one organ produces insulin in the body which is your pancreas and there are not many organ donors.Thats why human insulin is made.

you need to do your blood sugar test and your hgbA1C every 4 months to see how your meds, diet or exercise is keeping the disease in check.

I understand how hard it is to follow all these things since I was diagnosed as a type II diabetic in 1988.

I totally agree with you hipshot. It's all about money; the drug companys don't give two sh*ts if people get cured or not. The longer people treat the symptoms in an attempt to improve and prolong life, the fatter their cash cow gets!

I am type 2 and have been for over 20 years. If you are a Viet Nam veteran apply for benefits with the VA. Only type 2 and only if you got it after you came home. I am on insulin and that is a two way street because they want you to lose weight but if you are on insulin weight loss is harder. Many other problems as well. Try to keep up with them but it is hard to do so.

I too am a type two diabetic an have been since 1983.I started out as a gestational diabetic, anyone who doesn't know what this is ,it's diabetis associated with pregancy only and usually goes away with the end of pregancy. I have struggled wiht this for many years.I finally found a good doctor who has helped keep me on track. It has not been easy and I do get off track at times. The best way is to count your carbs, stay away from refined sugars and anything white ,corn also has alot of sugar in it.I cut out my sugar for a month to see if it made a difference. My aic went from 10 to 5.2 in one month.I do have neuropathy in my legs and feet and I can't feel when things are to hot.I also stay very cold in the winter so you need to watch out for this. If you will watch your carbs and sugars and keep track of your a1c it helps alot. You can get a copy of the diabetic diet from a hospital dietician and some insurance companies will pay for teaching.Good luck with this and I hope to meet you soon.

I have a great peanut butter cookie recipe that has no sugar and no flour in it .1cup of peanut butter 1 cup of splenda 1 egg and 1/2 stick of butter, mix and shape into balls place on cookie sheet flatten out with a fork, you can't eat peanut butter cookies without fork prints across them, and bake at 350 for 12 minutes. I also wanted to tell you that you do not have to stick your finger anymore you can stick your arm and the palm of your hand.good luck

I too have the curse and believe me it is a curse. I was diagnoed with type 2 last year. Anything that taste good is bad for you. I was at a starbucks in Atlanta and they had a free health screening. My blood sugar was 140 and the nurse told me when I got home to go see a doctor immediately. I didn't go to the doctor because I knew he would tell me three things. Lose weight, exercise and watch what I eat. I did this and by blood sugar when back to the normal range. I got the flu and quit exercising and went back to over eating. After the flu I just couldn't make myself exercise again. My sugar went went up and I couldn't get it back down. I was on 5mg of glipizide twice per day and my sugar would still be 170 in the morning. Three months ago the doctor increased it to 10mg and it still is in the 170's. I hadn't checked it lately but after reading this thread I knew I had better do something. Yesterday at 1:00 I ate a roast beef sandwich on wheat bread, had a small cup of vegestable soup and a glass of water. At 7:00pm I check my sugar and it was 176. I believe I could just drink water and my sugar level would still be high.

Bongobob the last I heard you get 20% just for being there and getting it with no side effects, then for every thing it effects like your eyes (retinopathy) (I had laser surgery on both eyes), if you get neuropathy (I have it in both legs and arms). They initially rated me at 70% then about 5/6 years ago found out I had congestive heart failure and they upped it to 100%. I now get acess to all military bases and campgrounds, to shop in PX and commisaries, my wife as well. I get free medical, optical and dental, for all illnesses and free medicine. I wish I did not have it but since i do I am glad i am a Nam Vet.

Talked to my mom last night she is now a Diabetic. She has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, overweight, history of blood Clots so she is also on blood thinners. She is taking meds in morning and evening. Mom also has a ulcer on her leg that she is going to the Dr for every week. Her mother developed diabetes later in life. Mom is 66. She had 3 brothers out of 5 that also have it the other 2 died from cancer. I also know of 1 of her sisters that now have it not sure of other 2. After learning this I am trying to help fiqure out what foods she can eat. By being also on blood thinners there is foods that she can't have. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or in the same boat.
