KarlS Posted April 2, 2012 #51 Posted April 2, 2012 I can see it now, VR riders trying to get a picture in front of a State Capital with something that looks like a pipe bomb or a stick of dynamite.
09RSTD Posted April 2, 2012 #52 Posted April 2, 2012 Team North. I am in ORegon state and I can do Oregon. By the way how are we going to keep this organized? how do we know what is available and where the baton is currently?

FuzzyRSTD Posted April 6, 2012 #54 Posted April 6, 2012 I will get with Don and see if there is a way we can have a note pad post or something that we can keep updated. I think it would be good to add the sticky and allow only the north and south team captains access to keep it up to date. The members should message or call their captains to let them know what capitals/states have been done. Everyone would be allowed to look, but only captains should make changes. Another Thread such as this one here, could be left open to all members to post their thoughts and pictures. But again the sticky should be only be accessed by the captains. And team members should only message them through the site or call to reply information and what capitals/states they had achieved. Everyone should be allowed to look at the sticky to make plans and work out their own rides with members through the site and calls to the members. Fuzzy from the South Team .......... Ooh Rahh ...... Lets get rrr done you all.....
Wanderer Posted April 6, 2012 #55 Posted April 6, 2012 (edited) Tire change for me tomorrow and then run up to Montgomery for the Alabama capitol. Then I'll head south toward Florida or east toward Georgia and pass the baton. What say ya'll? Any one in the Tallahassee area? Edited April 6, 2012 by Wanderer add text

I was going to go to the Illinois Capitol today but I finally accepted a position after 2 1/2 years of being out of work so I have to do paperwork and get a physical. Guess I will do it next week.
twigg Posted April 6, 2012 #57 Posted April 6, 2012 I would be happy to join the "South" team. We should have started last weekend, when I rode through six States I can grab Oklahoma, and if there is a need, probably a few others too. It is likely I can do Texas on the 28th, but we have quite a few members already in TX, so it shouldn't be a problem. This challenge is probably tougher on the South. We have a longer season, but the distances involved are greater. Sounds like fun.

The idea of the pvc pipe was good with a couple good pencils (not ink pen, get hot or something and leak and ruin everything) with sheet for all to sign and the states they get or something like that. A nice spreadsheet made up in Excell or Quattro 9 would be nice. The pvc pipe should be at least an 1" longer than a sheet of paper is wide. So sheet of paper is 8 1/2" wide, so pvc 10" long and probably 1" size pipe with the end caps not glued would really be about right. The 1/2" size pvc I think would be to small to handle and roll the paper up in. Write the south on the outside of it with a permanent marker maybe. Just my thoughts this morning as I sit here with ice pack on my shoulder and awaiting that first cup of mo-jo ..... Fuzzy

Fuzzy I didn't think we were to let th e other team know what we were using for a baton and to be honest I haven't thought of anything. I'll come up with something.

I'll come up with something. Roger that Captain Southern Wanderer. Maybe I can get my two tires changed here in the next couple weeks, maybe, soon as shoulder allows and help comes along. Maybe I should make a phone call or two about that right now. I could probably do the front with my wive's help, maybe. Fuzzy

KarlS Posted April 6, 2012 #63 Posted April 6, 2012 I have to back out of the game. Even though the VR only costs me gas and insurance and gives me great pleasure I have to put it up for sale. I have to get money in the bank for unforeseen emergencies.
DanOh Posted April 7, 2012 #64 Posted April 7, 2012 For north team planning; I can easily get MD and DC. We are planning a trip mid May and will be starting in MD, then VA, TN, AL, MS, LA, FL, GA, SC, NC, TN, VA and then back home to MD. Looking forward to playing. Think this will take a fair bit of logistics\organization to get'er done.
Scooter Bob Posted April 7, 2012 #65 Posted April 7, 2012 Think this will take a fair bit of logistics\organization to get'er done. I'm sure glad that's Rick's new job. I just want to take the baton from Rick, take it to Madison, and take it to Bubber, done deal. But it does sound like fun, Scooter Bob

Best of luck getting life back on track Karl:thumbsup2: Later, Scooter Bob
FuzzyRSTD Posted April 7, 2012 #67 Posted April 7, 2012 I have to back out of the game. Even though the VR only costs me gas and insurance and gives me great pleasure I have to put it up for sale. I have to get money in the bank for unforeseen emergencies. Sorry to hear this. Hope you the best and please hang in there and holler if you need me for anything. I know how it is sometimes. I had surgery on my shoulder 3 weeks ago. Been off work for 12 weeks now. My caring/helpful dear wife has thyroid surgery next Monday and I am not allowed to even drive yet, per docs orders. So I am depending on my family and friends to drive me around, do any heavy lifting, get the yard mowed, and run errins for me and my wife. And to beat it all, my little boy has an appointment to have his left ankle checked at the Shriner's Children Hospital in Lexington KY on the 30th of this month. His ankle is protruding to the inside for some reason. Very noticeable. I am not complaining, just saying we have to be able to look out into the future and sometimes expect such oncoming things in this life, and sometimes we must sacrifice one thing to get something more important for our families and ourselves. So the very best to you and yours Karls. Fuzzy
Wanderer Posted April 7, 2012 #68 Posted April 7, 2012 Aren't we a fine lot? I was just gutted like a fish early March to fix a bowel and hernia and am not supposed to do anything until the first week in May. Too late, I think I already did something wrong, my guts are killing me. I'm just not one to sit around much. I was hoping to do the tires today, but my friend didn't come by to help and I knew I couldn't do it all myself. I think I pulled something getting on the motorcycle and lifting it off the side stand, not sure, but it does hurt.
StarUmp Posted April 7, 2012 #69 Posted April 7, 2012 Golf & Venture How about we team up for Washington and Oregon. If someone in Northern California could meet us in Ashland, OR or somewhere down there we can hand it off. We could be the Pacific Coast Team.

I think I pulled something getting on the motorcycle and lifting it off the side stand, not sure, but it does hurt. You need to listen to the doctors Captain Wanderer. I have found out the hard way. I have paid with some hefty pain in the shoulder from pushing the limits. I got lucky and will not have to have the surgery again so far. I will tell you what they told me; "If you end up having to have that surgery the second time, you will more than likely surely not like it and recovery will be twice as long." So there, make up your mind my friend. I hope you have not hurt yourself. Take care and please listen to the docs and the wife, they always know best for you. Fuzzy
Rick Haywood Posted April 8, 2012 Author #71 Posted April 8, 2012 OK, went for a couple hundred mile ride today and along the way just happened to be in Springfield, Illinois which also happens to be the state capitol. So here are the pics. I also had a friend suggest I put a thumb drive in the baton and then all the riders can add their pictures of the state capitol they get a pic of and when we get it all done I will make a web page that will include all the pics, dates that each capitol was accomplished and so forth. I thought it was a great idea so am going to pick one up tomorrow. Now to get the next person to carry the baton and get a pic. I am leaving Saturday the 14th of April for Marshall Arkansas. If anyone wants to meet up to get the baton and get Arkansas let me know. Thanks

playboy Posted April 9, 2012 #74 Posted April 9, 2012 . If anyone wants to meet up to get the baton and get Arkansas let me know. Thanks Confused as to why the north captain is worried about Arkansas. Does the north team not try for the north states and south for the south.

Thanks Confused as to why the north captain is worried about Arkansas. Does the north team not try for the north states and south for the south. Nope, each team needs to get all lower 48 states. So is does not matter what state you live in or what team you are on. The object is to get all of the 48 states first. So a person must decided and then go from there. Now if everyone would prefer I can divide up the states to 24 apiece and we can move on from there
