yooper Posted March 29, 2012 #1 Posted March 29, 2012 Done a few things to the new girl the last few days , one carb #1 was leaking checked it out and the screw for draining the carb was loose so hopfully that will be ok, then i had leak in the radiater so dug into that the fan was rubbing somewhere back a time took the other one off my parts bike my1990 put that on so all is fine for now, then put new plugs in, cold up here with rain so all wait awhile to go for ride to check things out. Who has those washers for sale here for the carbs to get better gas milage ? my other bike is a 1993 same as the 90 even same color.Oh yes put two washer in the fan bolts to have more room, so that wont rub again so you guys with the 1st Gen fix that it will save you in the end. 73 Yooper

van avery Posted March 30, 2012 #5 Posted March 30, 2012 http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=22 Here is a link to SKYDOC stuff. Its in the "classifieds" then "member vendors". These are listed at the bottom of the first page. Good luck I just installed a set in my 87 this week but haven't noticed much difference yet. But haven't been many miles yet.
Morev4 Posted April 5, 2012 #6 Posted April 5, 2012 Talked to Fred. He shimmed the carbs and picked up 6 mfg better fuel economy. Said the bike has more pep also.
yooper Posted April 22, 2012 Author #7 Posted April 22, 2012 Yes the milage is lot better the best so far is 45 1/2 that is driving no more than 63 and that is a chalenge for me. Started off today when i left it was 39 just at the line for going out, got down by Crystalfalls and it was 60 , just 50 miles south of here. warmer tomorrow so south we go. 73 Yooper
Shorty Posted April 22, 2012 #8 Posted April 22, 2012 Talked to Fred. He shimmed the carbs and picked up 6 mfg better fuel economy. Said the bike has more pep also. I put the shims in mine, milage went up 5 mpg but PEP went down. I suppose I'll have to race Fred again on his new machine to see which ones the fastest. I got um on the old one but not by much as Fred states.
KIC Posted April 22, 2012 #9 Posted April 22, 2012 I ordered a set of the nylon shims for both of mine last week. I hope it helps my mileage. My biggest problem right now with the 86 is the diaphragms are shot. That$ gonna hurt the wallet !
