GAWildKat Posted March 22, 2012 #1 Posted March 22, 2012 Mike's doing his Visual Basic homework, advanced class. This is his 4th time taking a VB class between 4 different schools....let's say he generally knows what he's doing. Tonight he's struggling with working with CSV format. I know it's about reading from, writing to, and putting the database into a visual format like a contacts list in an address book, only it's dealing with car sales. The trouble he's having is with reading from the file. The textbook discusses how write the file. However it doesn't discuss the other part. He's emailed the prof, however it's unlikely he will hear from her until Monday. Homework is due tomorrow (Thurs) @11:59pm. Anyone want to lend him a hand? We'd both appreciate it, he's been pulling his hair out all day.
GolfVenture Posted March 22, 2012 #2 Posted March 22, 2012 Well it has been just too many years since I worked with VB, but these days no matter what app you are using, help can be found on the web and sometimes much better than a text book. This might be too basic but maybe it might point him in the right direction. http://www.ehow.com/how_7352191_read-csv-file-vb.html
friesman Posted March 22, 2012 #3 Posted March 22, 2012 sorry would like to help, but I am mostly a hardware guy.. Its been a long time since ive looked at doing any coding. Brian
GAWildKat Posted March 22, 2012 Author #4 Posted March 22, 2012 Yeah, I can't help Mike either, I'm the hardware geek, he's the programmer. I used to be able to proof code, but I never learned VB.
MikeWa Posted March 22, 2012 #5 Posted March 22, 2012 http://www.ehow.com/how_5207091_read-visual-basic.html Good luck
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2012 #6 Posted March 22, 2012 I can also help (maybe) as I write code in it daily.
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2012 #7 Posted March 22, 2012 You can email me rlyerex@telus.net with your specifics and provide some sample of what you're doing and I will get back to you with the "how to" ... or at least I will take a look. I have written lots of code reading and writing to text files, data conversion, etc, etc
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2012 #8 Posted March 22, 2012 Oh jeez... I just read the rest of your msg... not so sure I could provide the info by your deadline.
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2012 #9 Posted March 22, 2012 Oh, and btw, the reason I am bald is from writing VB code... LOL!
SilvrT Posted March 22, 2012 #10 Posted March 22, 2012 Golf&Venture posted a good link ... check it out.
