I couldn't wait any longer . It was 83 degrees here in New york State and my son and I headed over to Wyoming County to pick up my new to me 1986 Black and Gold Venture Royale!

The bike has hardly been ridden in the last 3 years. It sat in the last owners basement gathering a lot of dust. and in a garage before that. He got it stuck trying to get it out of the house and it had a lot of mud on it.

We headed down the hill from his home(dirt road to boot) and the first thing I discover is air in the combined front rear break lines. Pumping the pedal got me some response but the front brake and engine breaking got me home the 68 miles back to my house.

Twenty miles out I notice the temp gauge not registering. then it did, then it didn't . Obviously a lose connection but oddly down hill got a response so a total fluid check starts tomorrow' But what a beauty even under all that dirt. Got to some open highway to open her up. the spirit was willing but the battery, air cleaner cover wasn't bolted back on and over 80 threatened to blow off. On top of that she didn't seem ready to hold an idle no matter how fast or how far we went.

So a few dibbles of sea foam with a couple of tank fulls. flush the radiator. Check wiring, bolt down that cover and then its cleaning, waxing and rubbing to make her glisten! Here's what she looked like after getting her home. I'll post the after pictures when she is done. But except for these little things. She's a gem ! Did a mention( a thousand times) that This is my favorite color!!!:dancefool::dancefool::dancefool:

Man am I excited . She looks good and despite the few gremlins ran great too. It was tough when the 85 went down last fall. I still had my Sabre but my girlfriend Terri sure does enjoy the comfort of the Venture.

Okay short Rant!

Went to register it today and New York wanted me to pay tax on the "Fair market value" of the bike. They called someone on Albany that told them fair market value on an 86 venture was $3,370.00. Seeing as how I paid almost $1200. less I now have to send a Statement of transaction to the owner to sign and fill out or i have to pay the full tax amount, about $250.00!!! What the F*$@?!

I mean it is a 26 year old motorcycle ! I'm retired on a fixed income and still paying for the ex's home and her maintenance,(That's what they call alimony now.) Plus my own home. I had to sell off two other bikes plus parts from the old 85 just to afford the 86.

I'm driving a sixteen year old car as my daily driver and everything else in my garage was made in the mid eighties. Oh well! :confused24::depressed:

It took me a lot of broken DMV transactions to start remembering to carry that particular form with me.

I'd be glad to sell them to ya. But I was planning on removing the progressive springs I installed in 2009. Drop me a PM and we can talk price. If i like it I'll send the progressives too.
