Have you noticed that there are almost no nice 1st gens on E-bay lately? There used to always be a couple. Maybe Yamaha needs to make a few more.

Just imagine they will start popping back up around the end of January into March (tax season) when those income checks are sent out.

I bet if they did revive the non "Harley-styled-retro-Venture" it would sell very well indeed... I see alot of people in here refering to how they were sorry they sold their old 1st gen venture...:thumbsup2: :mo money:

I think Redneck is buying them all up filling up that big garage of his. They will be worth a mint someday. Maybe thats why he bought that big pistol to patrol with.:rotf::rotf::rotf:

You know better than that I wouldn't waste valuable garage space on a first gen. I believe they are already worth a mint but a box of mints doesn't cost much.:stirthepot:

There has been a drop in activity. Last month (Dec '07), only 12 bikes were listed. In Dec. '06 Ebay had 17 sold. Currently I only see one that's listed. For the entire month of Jan of '07 there were 30 1stGens that closed. The same thing goes for 1stGen parts. If it weren't for a couple of sellers parting out bikes ,and doing mass listings, parts activity would be really low. Sign of the economy.....??

This is a little off topic, but I am beginning to notice that there is a friendly rivalry between 1st and 2nd gen bike owners. I have had 2nd gens come into my threads with playful suggestions to get rid of my 1st and upgrade to a 2nd gen.

I might be biased, but I really like my 1st gen, especially since I've never ridden a 2nd gen. Even if I did, why "upgrade" when you already have a great bike.

Maybe the price of gas has a bunch of SUV drivers scouring the countryside, buying up all the 1st Gens ready-to-ride for commuting? The fuel cost savings would pay for one in the first year (maybe 2 years for a nice one.)

That's not why I ride, but it's a nice bonus.

78,000 miles on the odometer this month, that's 36,000 miles in 41 months. Hey, I've ridden my 1st Gen around the world! And saved twice the cost of my bike in fuel savings. Al Gore, Global Warming, take that!

From what I have seen on Ebay they arent selling 1st Gens in ONE PIECE anymore. I have seen several say the parts came off a running 1st gen. Brings tears to my eyes.:( A perfecting good working 1st Gen canabalized. Can you see someone removing the leg off old grandpa to sell him one piece at a time? Hmmmmmm.... wonder how much I COULD get for my ole 84 parted out ...:rotf::rotf:

They're probably moving to Craig's list. That service reaches lots of people but doesn't charge the big bucks that e-bay charges. Also, it is locataion specific so you don't have to worry about shipping, you can just go pick it up.

I figgure what's happening is folks are hanging on to their 1st gens, fixing them up as necessary and continuing to ride them coz there's nothing out there good enuf to switch over to...not even a 2nd gen!!!

Just sold one of my 83's on Craigs list. Seems like the place where things are headed. Ebay actually owns 25% of Craigs List. Hope they don't get their hooks in any deeper.....

Welcome to Venturerider where friendly rivalry abounds between 1st Gen and 2nd Gen. It's all in good fun!

No one denies that a 1st gen is a great bike. But as parts are all the time falling off them, the 2nd Gen was designed with better saddle bags so they can follow along and pick up the parts!! Whoops I said the wrong thing!! Now someone will say....yea that is all a 2nd gen can do is follow!! This rivalry thing is kinda like a morning smile......has about the same meaning, just fun, something to do.......kinda matches a bikers attitude about life, friendly to everyone..but still wanting to mess with someone.............hard to explain....it is comradeship.......like I said, hard to explain.....but it is fun!!!:bighug:

Only bike I ever had to tow home from a breakdown was a second gen.

First gens forever. Did I say red is the fastest.:rotf::rotf::rotf:

Now you second gen boys rest assured. If we see you broke down we would always stop to help. It makes for good posting material on this site.:rotf::rotf::rotf:

Hey Frogman, I quit carrying my two strap in my bag on my 1st Gen, those 2nd gens are too heavy on my to pull and slow me down.:stirthepot: Guess I could just get a wrecker service to give me some of thier business cards and I could pass them out...:rotf::rotf::rotf::stirthepot::stirthepot:
