dacheedah Posted March 17, 2012 #1 Posted March 17, 2012 Leaving for Hawaii tomorrow. I booked the flight on United's web site on Jan 2 and paid extra for exit row seats. I printed out my confirmation and I was seated by my wife. Now I look at the seating chart on the plane and somehow my seat was moved to an economy. When I called customer service I spent two hours on the phone getting passed around and was finally told they have to deal with it at the airport as another passenger is seated there. Now I booked it early because we wanted those seats and when I booked it only a few seats were taken. My question is, does anyone know what the rules are or does anyone work for United that can explain. It's a 9 hr flight, United wants to move me to a non exit row seat, I told them I bought that seat and paid for it and received confirmation and all they want to do is move us to a regular seat.
Guest Posted March 17, 2012 #2 Posted March 17, 2012 Make them give you and your wife a seat in first class since they screwed it up.
MidlifeVenture Posted March 17, 2012 #3 Posted March 17, 2012 Happens all the time now that there Star Alliance you may have booked and choose seats but they juggle planes and flights between all the different airlines and seats get changed all around so if you book early I make it a habit to check seats and flights daily. Just because you booked United doesn't mean your flying United.
Cougar Posted March 17, 2012 #4 Posted March 17, 2012 Going to the Big Island in MAY (59) more days! I hope your seating thing works out for you.
BradT Posted March 18, 2012 #5 Posted March 18, 2012 Thought exit rows were reserved until check in as they wanted to make sure you can open the door in an emergency. Definetly a good seat to get, more room and you know the person in front is not going drop the seat because the one in front does not recline. Make you don't get that seat. Brad
dacheedah Posted March 18, 2012 Author #6 Posted March 18, 2012 I was afraid of getting stuck on a 9hr flight away from my wife and I always get stuck next to the talkative smelly guy. I watched and the plane was filling up with only a few seats left so I called and moved our seats to the last pair of side by sides. I have talked to people who have used United and everyone told me don't hold my breath, United looks at it as a seat is a seat. A travel agent says this happens all the time since my ticket price was lower, they resold a seat and moved me to a less desirable seat. She said if you have an isle seat or exit row seat you must check the seating often but the airlines look at the seat as just another seat. I didn't want to dwell on this and have it spoil my trip, thanks 4 lettin me vent and if you have a trip planned you have more info . . .
Scooter Bob Posted March 18, 2012 #7 Posted March 18, 2012 Why didn't you go to Hawaii when it was cold up here, instead of waiting for summer. Enjoy the trip, I'm sure you'll have fun after you get there, Scooter Bob
djh3 Posted March 18, 2012 #8 Posted March 18, 2012 As a frequent flyer on a different airlines based out of Atlanta I can tell you frequent fliers usualy get preferance. But you should have a recipet showing you paid for a "premium" seats. Hopefully it shows where you booked those seats. Because Unitied is terrible about saying an isle or window is "premium" in the forward say 6-8 rows of coach. I would certainly stand up at the counter and make it know that you paid extra for a service you are not reciving and you want to talk to a station manager. How come I had "x" seats 3 days agoa and now your in the back of the bus or whatever. For me star alliance sucks. United/US Air I have no status on them and it seems everytime I fly them I get my ticket and pick a seat and like you its never the same by the time I go to fly. Make sure you take a pair of shorts and clean undies to last you a couple days while they figure out where your luggage went, or youll become familiar with the ABC store.
BuckShot Posted March 18, 2012 #9 Posted March 18, 2012 Kevin--My wife used to work for US Air and she said that if you paid extra for exit row seats you should get those seats. She said hopefully your receipt shows this and to make sure you take it to the counter. Anytime you pay extra on a flight, for a spesific seat, that is garenteed comfirmation. If your receipt shows those seats and you don't get them you should go to consumer affairs on their website or they should refund the extra money you paid. Hope this helps.
