Sleeperhawk Posted January 6, 2008 #26 Posted January 6, 2008 Condor, In your experience, how long does a "stock" battery normally last on a 2nd gen? I bought my bike (new-off showroom floor) in June 2005 I have not had ANY trouble with the battery YET.. I am interested in one of your 2nd gen odyssey batteries, but not sure I really need it yet. Dont want to throw money away, but with my luck, as soon as I say no, I dont need one now, my battery will die on me.. Eck I had my battery on the 05 replaced this past summer, bought the bike in 04. Was taking longer to crank before starting. So I figured 3 years on the OEM battery was long enough, replaced and no more cranking issues.

Eck, I'll just add that I have known of several Ventures, both 1st and 2nd gen that have sudden battery death syndrome. It might be that folks have lots of added elecrical goodies on the bikes, but I find that I'll replace a battery if it's older than 2 years. For the $100 you might spend on a good battery, it's good insurance to not be broke down due to a stupid battery
Condor Posted January 8, 2008 Author #30 Posted January 8, 2008 Just a friendly BUMP!!, and to let everyone know that we have more on the list than originally needed for a group buy. We still have about 12 days to go, so there's plenty of time for others to the join in. I just want to add that we have another member who has taken up the lance, for whatever reason, and is pushing everyone to purchase their batteries from a particular Ebay dealer. That's his choice, and your's too if you choose to do so. The Ebay dealer had the PC680MJ battery listed at $85.00 Buy-it-now, and there were 4 available. This is way below 2007 dealer cost. I have talked to the suppier about this, and they feel it could only be old stock, as the 2006 dealer price would have made the $85.00 possible. Speaking from experience in early 2006 I purchased two 680MJ batteries from the supplier, and they cost right at $95.00 delivered to the door. Shipping charges were $9.00, and they've only gone up .05¢ since then. I'm not making a dime on these batteries, and I thought doing something like this would be a good thing for the group. Call it a VR buying syndicate if you will. The batteries from the group buy will be very fresh, and any warrantee issues can be addressed directly with the West Coast supplier on your invoice. Whichever way you decide to go will be OK by me

The deadline for the group list is the 20th, but you can go ahead and send your payment via paypal anything you'd like. If you've never used paypal, I can send you an invoice from this end, but I'll need you to PM me your email address. Since the 2ndGens don't have a battering monitoring system the 545 should be a plug and play....

I'm not totally sure on size, but it should be a smaller footprint that the OEM. Perhaps Freebird or another member who's already installed one could chime in with some guidence?? I only do 1stGens.....

Condor Posted January 14, 2008 Author #45 Posted January 14, 2008 An Odyssey BUMP and a report. For anyone thinking about ordering an Odyssey, we're down to the last 6 days before placing the group buy order. We have more than enough members who have committed and already paid. Thanks. For those on the list who haven't sent in their payment, now would be a good time. If getting an email invoice from paypal would make it any easier, I can do that too. Just PM me your email address, and I'll get'r done.
