The last time I posted this thread it was pretty short notice and although we did get 5 members to commit it just wasn't enough. But hey, we tried.

I just got off the phone with Odyssey, trying to get 2008 pricing from them, and I have some good news. Odyssey agreed to hold the 2007 prices until the end of the month for us. So the prices posted below are still good until 1/31/08. We still need to get 10 members.... or more, but the timing isn't as critical this time around.

Here's a cut and paste of the important info.....

http://www.odysseybatteries.com/battery/pc680_sm.jpg

For 1stGens the Odyssey is PC680. Your price each to your doorstep will be $99.00. Be aware that this is the non-metal jacket battery. I discussed the application at length with Odyssey , and they reiterated what they had said in the past about not needing the heavier MJ version for our 1stGens. If anyone would like one of the PC680MJ's I'm sure we could get one, but the the difference will be an extra $11.00 bucks. Also take note that the batteries will be fresh from the supplier, and haven't been sitting on a dealers shelf for an extended period of time.

For 2ndGens the Odyssey is PC545. Your price each to your doorstep will be $94.00.

Payments are to be sent via Paypal to paypal@cast-aways.com

Bateries will be drop shipped directly from Odyssey, except for those batteries going into Canada. They'll be bluk shipped to us and then shipped from here.

There will be a shipping surcharge for those batts shipped to Canada. I'll probably do the same thing as the MAC's which seemed to keep the cost down, and be agreeable with everyone.

The prices work out to be Dealer cost plus $15 bucks to cover shipping and paypal charges. Canadian shipment will need to be adjusted once I get one here to do a shipping estimate.

If you have any questions, or see something that's missing from the above please PM me.

Jack

Gearhead had a post on another thread where he stated some information he had received after talking to a Odyssey rep. He stated "We do recommend the MJ version for the Venture because we have found it be hotter with less circulation". I am not sure if they were referring to the first gen or second gen, but there does seem to be a conflict of information.

I saw that and posted a comment about it in the thread. Depends on who you talk to at Odyssey. They recommend the MJ for Harleys because of the air cooled motor, lots of vibration, and the battery sitting next to the oil reserve. Really hot. We're dealing with water cooled motors and a battery on the 1stGens that sits above and in front of the carburation. There's lots of ir moving through that area. Temps not anywhere near those of the Harley. But if you re-read my first post, if you want the MJ it's $11 bucks more than the standard. They both are built the same, except for the jacket, and with the same performance and warantee. Your call. I'm not sure where the 2ndGen is mounted, but I bet it's in a much cooler area than that of the Harley.

That's a good point Graig. Anyone installed the combination?

I know the bike we did for Charlie had an Oddessy that I installed in it. I also had the new fuse block in it also, but I'm not sure which battery # we installed.

Let me get back home and I'll see if I have any info on that :confused24:

I'm in, do you need the paypal now, or are you trying to see if you have enough? Need one for a 2nd gen.

Nah, Kenny, hang in there until about the 20th and I'll send out PM's.

Does this battery work with the computer system? The one I have in now is bypassed so the alert light isn't on all the time, be nice to have the system hooked back up so it works.

If you used your Visa to pay for the battery you can dispute the charges. I had to do that once. Took a while to get the charge reversed, but it finally happened. Got you on the list Don. Since some of the guys have already started, you can send the payment now or later. Whichever's most convenient.

I don't think you will be able to go back to using the warning on it. Half the time its the sender that went bad and its getting harder to find those. If I remember right its only checking the water level in one cell. I went ahead and put an odyssey in mine over a year ago.Just so i don't have battery acid all over the bike some day.

Count me in for a PC 545. I'll check in on the 20th to see if you made the goal and to make payment. This is the best price I've seen on the PC 545.

Condor,

In your experience, how long does a "stock" battery normally last on a 2nd gen?

I bought my bike (new-off showroom floor) in June 2005

I have not had ANY trouble with the battery YET..

I am interested in one of your 2nd gen odyssey batteries, but not sure I really need it yet. Dont want to throw money away, but with my luck, as soon as I say no, I dont need one now, my battery will die on me..
