The Harely have what, 90 hp or less, and the "Gen has a hundred. How in the World would a Harley pull better if it's not the Gearing.

I'm not trying to argue with you about this gearing thing, heck, I own a VMAX, remember? I'm just saying that the 2nd Gen does what it does very well the way it comes from the factory. And to me, that's all that matters. If I ever decide to start pulling a trailer, things may be different. I'll deal with that when the time comes. And if I want something to go fast, I'll get the hotrod out of storage. I think it will quench whatever impulse I may get as far as a need for speed. Besides, I'm 58 years old, what have I got to prove??
Richie R Posted May 8, 2012 #29 Posted May 8, 2012 Our bikes maybe over geared some and that makes them a little soft down low and its really no big deal but there are times you wish it had more torque down low. The fact that Harley has 90 hp doesn't really matter but its torque comes on much lower in the rpm and that makes them quick from the lights. The v max rear end is a good idea but I must like my bike enough not to put one in. lol Richie R

I really like my venture but they could have done better with that v 4 though. I have exhaust on mine redid the carbs float level, pilot jets it runs great but it maybe time to upgrade. We have it down to the Cross Country Tour or the Road Glide Ultra. Maybe I miss the low end torque from the old hot rods I built when I was younger or the one I still have. lol Richie R I own the road glide custom, different seat, no trunk, lowered suspension, and short windshield. The stock seat on my '11 is surprisingly comfy, I did have to change windshields though. I actually would test ride both the ultra and the custom if you are riding mostly single, not as much 2 up. alot of guys take a custom and add the tourpack etc. But then you dont get intercom, cb etc. But the ride is a bit different. If you do decide on a road glide sometime, there is a site for them just like this one. The people are ALMOST as friendly. Lots of info to be picked up there if you do. Try Roadglide. org. kyle Posted May 9, 2012 #31 Posted May 9, 2012 I had the oppurtunity to switch bikes for about 80 miles with a co-worker. his 2011 ultra for my 2005rsv. after 80 miles I wanted mine back but he wanted to stay on the rsv, the smile on his face said it all, even apologized for all the rice burner jokes i never heard him say. go figure.
