Cougar Posted March 7, 2012 #1 Posted March 7, 2012 I found rather coming behind the trike (lower profile). It was much easier to come in with the jack from the left/right side front fenders. it also gives you the room to plant a couple jack stands as well. Just come in from the direction shown and place the jack(s) under the shock bolt area. when coming in from that direction it allows you to be able to place the jack in the front on the other bar. when I remove both wheels I still leave both jacks in place and add the jack stands for saftey. These are $16 dollor jacks from your favorite Auto Store. While all the tires are off I plan on using POR-20 in the Exhaust extensions And cleaning everything up under there. I will post the POR-20 job next week. Enjoy. Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #3 Posted March 8, 2012 your very welcome, glad it might help you one day
Carbon_One Posted March 8, 2012 #4 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Got Jay Ragtop69gs/Jeanies trike up on stands now as well. Forget just where I place the stands thou. Larry Ok I just checked the stand location while looking at tires. I placed the jack stands under the rearmost section of frame next to the mufflers where the angle iron extends to the body. bongobobny Posted March 8, 2012 #5 Posted March 8, 2012 Hmmm, and I've been jacking up mine from the rear differential all this time. Kind of nice that way as it comes straight up, and get it high enough you can lean it from one side to the other with the front end so you can stick a jack stand under there...
Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #6 Posted March 8, 2012 Well, that was one of the huge no no's from Hannigan about using the diff as a jacking point. So you see no problem with it ?
Carbon_One Posted March 9, 2012 #7 Posted March 9, 2012 Didn't jack up the Hannigan trike by the differential but don't understand Hannigan's no-no on that. I've jacked up cars & trucks many times over the years by the differentials without any ill effects. And they weigh a whole lot more then these trikes do. Larry
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #8 Posted March 9, 2012 Larry, I also used to do that for many years on my older cars as well. Have no idea why that have that on there manual that way , so I never have. was commenting to bongobobny about it. Jeff
bongobobny Posted March 9, 2012 #9 Posted March 9, 2012 Hmmmm, didn't know Hannigan didn't want it done that way. As Larry said, ain't a heck of a lot of weight to worry about! Maybe they are more worried about the safety aspect???
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #10 Posted March 9, 2012 Could be that the differential is off-set and they worry about it tipping? Dunno It is good to know that you guys are not seeing any problems in doing it that way. might just have to start myself then I also at first thought if using that spot as a jacking point it might mess with the drive shaft in someway (Alignment ?) (Pressure?) P.S. my POR-20 will be in today, so over the weekend I will get that on the extension pipes and post a pic for you guys.

I just checked Jays bike and that differential is mounted rock solid to the frame. No way for it to move at all so my only thought on that is Hannigan says what they say for safety concerns due to it being off-center and allowing the rear end to tillt. Larry
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #12 Posted March 9, 2012 Okey Dokey.. Thanks Larry--I will give it a shot today after work then.. It would make life a lot easier that way.. jack in middle and jack stands on each side. and just for the hell of it I will email Jim and ask him why this would be a problem.
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #13 Posted March 9, 2012 Larry, why do you have a couple Hannigans at your house/shop? Are you working on some sort of top secret up grade or something?
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #14 Posted March 9, 2012 Jim just emailed me back and...... Jeff, The diff if fine to jack up with and also if you have a trailer hitch you can jack from the point where the rear supports connect to the hitch. Jack stands can be placed on the main frame. Jim Gooch Customer Service /Warranty Manager I Do have the hitch as well So now we have servral ways of jacking it up !! good to know.
ragtop69gs Posted March 9, 2012 #15 Posted March 9, 2012 (edited) Larry is correct. I jacked it from the Diff and it does lean when you get it off the ground. I never got the Hannigan manual, I called and talked to Jim last fall about getting a manual, he was supposed to send one but it never came. Here's a few pic of the bike on the stands while sitting in Larry's garage. Edited March 9, 2012 by ragtop69gs
Carbon_One Posted March 9, 2012 #16 Posted March 9, 2012 Larry, why do you have a couple Hannigans at your house/shop? Are you working on some sort of top secret up grade or something? Yep besides the hitch I built for Jay (see his post above for pics) We're doing a top secret project. Pics and info to follow at a later date. Larry
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #17 Posted March 9, 2012 RaggTop.... So why is this trike up in the air? what is Larry doing to it? I also love the idea of having the front on the ramp as well. that way we can bring everything up to the same hight. When I find my manual , I will copy it for you and send it to you. Jeff

Jeff If ya really gotta know.... Larry's gonna kill me for this but, I recently came into possession of an old Turbine engine that were fitting into the frame. Our goal is to improve fuel economy by 50% and burn french fry oil. The best of both worlds food and fuel at the same stop.

Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #22 Posted March 9, 2012 OK Jay, When Larry has the kit on the market I want 2 of them please ! Thanks!
bongobobny Posted March 10, 2012 #23 Posted March 10, 2012 When I jack up from the differential, both wheels come up equally! If I turn the front end it will fall to the side depending on what way I turn to!!
