Cougar Posted March 7, 2012 #1 Posted March 7, 2012 (edited) Jim has been nice enough to give me the part number for the disk brakes on the rear of the trike. In the past most of us started out with Brembo's and they kind of wear fast They say now that they have had better luck with the EBC FA266 HH pads and can be purchased at local motorcycle dealers. I found that they will run from 25 all the way to 36 bucks. (for two) I did some research today and found them at Amazon for $33 a set free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dautomotive&field-keywords=EBC+Brakes+FA266+HH Shipped from Power Sports Edited July 5, 2013 by Cougar For newer type Hannigan Rotors now.
kj5ix Posted March 8, 2012 #2 Posted March 8, 2012 Good info,,, I thought that they used Honda Civic or Accord front break calipers pretty much exclusively on all of their kits,,, I know the BMW and GL1800 do. Still good info to have in the old data banks. Hope I don't lose the key to the bank to get it out again,,,,,,,,,,,
leo3wheel Posted March 8, 2012 #3 Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks Jeff! Sounds like your trike is getting lots of tender care.....
Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #4 Posted March 8, 2012 George, They do use Honda Civic or Accord for the arm shocks etc. but the rotor and caliber is from a separate company. that company that make the rotor and the caliber send the unit complete the Hannigan. When Mine was done it had the WRONG PADS ( and about 30 other kits).. they put pads for stainless steel rotors and our rotors are cast iron.. *OOPS* it put really bad grooving into the rotors and Hannigan had to resend us all new rotors that year. The grooving started and wreaked the rotors with in 300 miles or so. Jeff
Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #5 Posted March 8, 2012 Leo, And do not worry. yours is fine LOL... they rectified the problem over 2 years ago. to bad they had to send about 30 of us new rotors and I might add it was FAST and great customer support. they were not happy at all. but they took care of us. I still have my old/new rotors thought about having them turned but not sure if they would get to thin or not. still have them in the drawer. I myself want to try out these new pads soon the Brembo's seem to ware pretty fast. I will also take pictures for you on the removal of the brake pads if you like. Jeff
leo3wheel Posted March 8, 2012 #6 Posted March 8, 2012 I will also take pictures for you on the removal of the brake pads if you like. Jeff Jeff, Please do. My rear pads are squeaky, and I'm not too crazy about them. They do stop well. It is mainly an image thing.
bongobobny Posted March 8, 2012 #7 Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) OK the Hannigan calipers are from a Ducatti, or at least the ducatti pads fit! The issue with the rear calipers is that the stock RSV master cylinder just can not deliver enough volume of fluid for the Honda calipers so they make up special brackets to mount the ducatti calipers on where the Hondas would mount. Unfortunately the stock honda rotor is too large also, so they put their own custom made rotors on which have a smaller diameter. Thanks to Carbon one, he found larger bore master cylinders from Jeg's that bolt right up where the stock RSV is mounted. I am presently waiting for mine to come, and then I will switch over to Honda parts, but I am going to spend the extra bucks for EBC slotted and cross drilled rotors and most likely some kind of aftermarket calipers as well that will bolt right on. I will be starting the project in the next week or so and will take pictures as I go. I absolutely can't stand the noisy squeaky stock Hannigan rear brakes and am disappointed in that aspect!!! The Master cylinder I bought is a 1 3/16 bore with a 1 inch stroke... Oops 1 1/8 in bore... Edited March 8, 2012 by bongobobny

Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #11 Posted March 8, 2012 Thanks for the Link.............. NOW all we need is for Larry to make some kind of kit for us !!
Cougar Posted March 8, 2012 Author #12 Posted March 8, 2012 BAD ? This would be a great next winters project I bet.. It also depends for myself on how this master cylinder would look and mount up on the bars as well.
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #13 Posted March 9, 2012 Robert, have you tried the EBC FA266 pads yet? If so how long was the wear?
bongobobny Posted March 9, 2012 #14 Posted March 9, 2012 No, I used organic pads direct from my local Ducatti dealer. The wear is not the issue, it's the noise!! Also, like you I suffered the dreaded "Rotors grooved up" syndrome as well. We had a trip to make before Hannigan could get the rotors to me so that's when I discovered via the local dealer about the source of the calipers. He immediately recognized the pads and had several different ones for me to choose from. I think he said it was from the "Monster" and other models. bought 2 pairs, one semi metallic to deal with the grooved rotors, and the organics. After the new rotors arrived I installed the organics. Rotors are still fine but the rear brakes have made that terrible squealing sound pretty much since day one...
Cougar Posted March 9, 2012 Author #15 Posted March 9, 2012 That's Strange I am hearing a few of you that are having this "terrible squealing sound" I have never had that yet. Just wondering what is causing that to happen? So did you ever send your rotors back or have them turned for back-up? OR are your still sitting in that garage grooved like mine? Or do you think it is even possible to have them turned or would it even be worth it? Jeff

Cougar Posted March 21, 2012 Author #24 Posted March 21, 2012 Jeff, Please do. My rear pads are squeaky, and I'm not too crazy about them. They do stop well. It is mainly an image thing. Ya know I wonder if it is caused by the hard pads and the stainless steal rotors? as i have never had the squeaky on the cast iron.. I also wonder if you can use the soft pads on these new rotors? Will find out soon enough though!! Jeff
