FROG MAN Posted March 3, 2012 #1 Posted March 3, 2012 I ordered two new batteries for the first gens today. With gasoline prices rising looks like more riding for me. Now to figure out my fuel economy problem on the 84. I normally get 36 mpg but when I ride with Yammer Dan I only get 24 mpg. Must be a fuel leak somewhere?
Hummingbird Posted March 3, 2012 #2 Posted March 3, 2012 Just a WILD guess but perhaps the leak is in the THROTTLE cable
Marcarl Posted March 3, 2012 #3 Posted March 3, 2012 Got to get your feet up on the pegs and quit dragging them,,, don't worry about Dan, he can catch up later.
Yammer Dan Posted March 3, 2012 #4 Posted March 3, 2012 Got to get your feet up on the pegs and quit dragging them,,, don't worry about Dan, he can catch up later. Are you saying the Brown 85's are that slow Carl???
Marcarl Posted March 3, 2012 #5 Posted March 3, 2012 Are you saying the Brown 85's are that slow Carl??? Slow and fast has a lot to do with the rider. Often times we 1st genners have to drag our feet so those following can keep up, after all, we can only go soo slow, but it still depends on the rider.
flb_78 Posted March 3, 2012 #6 Posted March 3, 2012 The fuel is escaping out the exhaust pipes. Weld the holes shut and I bet that you'll never run out of gas again.
Yammer Dan Posted March 3, 2012 #7 Posted March 3, 2012 We used to do that with a potato now and then....

Yammer Dan Posted March 4, 2012 #10 Posted March 4, 2012 Look in Dan's bags for a siphon hose . . . I think I smelled that leak coming out of the tailpipes when we were coming out of some of those turns. You remember the ones that were so sharp that when I went in first I could see your bike the "Red Baron" in front of me??
FROG MAN Posted March 4, 2012 Author #11 Posted March 4, 2012 Those down draft carbs were sucking so much air the vacumn was lifting the float bowels blowing gas right out the over flow vents.
saddlebum Posted March 4, 2012 #12 Posted March 4, 2012 Check all the hose on the bike. Make sure both ends of every hose on the bike connect to something, on the bike itself NO not your bike Silly Yammers bike
FROG MAN Posted March 4, 2012 Author #13 Posted March 4, 2012 :rotf: Actually mine was pushing Yammers to make him feel good about staying ahead 24 mpg.
Marcarl Posted March 4, 2012 #14 Posted March 4, 2012 You might have Yammer ride on his own bike for a change!!!
FROG MAN Posted March 4, 2012 Author #15 Posted March 4, 2012 I remember why I only got 24 mpg. I was on the Yellow Bird http://i1132.photobucket.com/albums/m580/ggrabose/1986Vmax004Small.jpg
Yammer Dan Posted March 4, 2012 #16 Posted March 4, 2012 I think I get in enough trouble without one of those but......
