59ndroy Posted February 27, 2012 #1 Posted February 27, 2012 I have 87 royale and was wondering about removing the stereo/tape deck. Then installing a newer radio with IPOD attachment. If I did this would the CB still work? Or is there more involved in keeping the old CB?
utadventure Posted February 27, 2012 #2 Posted February 27, 2012 I haven't tried it but would suspect that it would. You would still need the amp in order to connect the CB and headset. You could possibly link your new stereo into the amp (challenge: new stereo would already have an amp) in still benefit from the override stategy of the Venture. If you're not thrilled with the OEM set up, a great alternative is the JMCB-2003 in single or dual (intercom). It doesn't have "radio" but hooks up to your IPOD/MP3 player and sounds very good and still provides CB communication. Have one on my wife's Harley and she loves it. Dave

bongobobny Posted February 27, 2012 #4 Posted February 27, 2012 Yup! The CB needs to go thru the amp to be heard and to speak. If you can find an aftermarket radio with preamp outputs then it could be patched into the amp thru the DIN connector from the radio tuner box that is bolted onto the amplifier chassis. The controller box for the tuner is the little plastic thing with the push buttons and display. The actual tuner is a chassis bolted next to the amplifier box...
friesman Posted February 27, 2012 #5 Posted February 27, 2012 If all you need is an Ipod connection, have you considered just tapping into the bikes existing stereo? Thanks to member Scotty in here and his hilarious website, here is a link to the pin out connections you need and how to wire it up. Look for the link to GPS and IPOD wiring. While youre on Scotts website have a look around, its good for a chuckle or two. http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/ Brian
