So you'll train the guy following you that your brake light coming on doesn't necessarily mean you're slowing or stopping. Then when you hit the brakes he might not react to the light.

Personally, when I'm slowing I put enough foot on the pedal to light the brake light.

I can agree with Carl's logic but on the other hand if I'm downshifting that usually means I'm slowing down, the same as if I put the brakes on. I dunno, I have mixed feelings about it. Novel idea, but I probably wouldn't use it either...

My bet would be... after a long group ride with 6 to 10 of the bikes (1st Gens:stickpoke:) in front with the...look I'm downshifting light installed........Most riders wouldn't want one!

Now that you mention it rush hour, stop and go type traffic would drive the people behind you to the point of ignoring the brake lights. Having been stuck behind cars in traffic and having the brake lights coming on for every slow down I see your guys point thanks for the feed back.

Looking at the picture and the fact that it has an arrow which I gather indicates the direction the device must be mounted, I assume it is a mercury switch or similiar g-force principal. Decelaration would activate the switch. So what happens if you are going over a series of bumps? Would your brake light keep flashing ?

To be sensitive enough to work while down shifting, it would probably stay on a lot when going down a grade, even if brakes were not used to maintain the speed you want. The only way it would be effective is having an additional brake light that also came on when the brakes were used, like the third brake light in a car. I actually have a small LED brake light mounted on my trunk under the rack that comes on and oscillates from one side to the other.
